MONTEVALLO, Ala. __ The Tuskegee University cross country teams launched their seasons at the Montevallo Falcon Classic on Friday, September 12, showcasing early promise and competitiveness at the Montevallo Cross Country Course.
Competing against regional Division II foes, both squads demonstrated depth and resilience, signaling a strong start to their fall campaigns.
On the women's side, the Golden Tigers fielded a competitive 5K squad and secured a 7th place team finish that underscored both returning talent and newcomer energy. Tuskegee positioned itself firmly in the top ten of the field, with notable performances coming from top finishers like
Anaya Martin at 20:28.6, good for a top 30 finish. Teammates Aikerah Walker (21:20.5) and
Shalyah Tresvant (21:58.6) also finished in the top 50 in the meet.
Meanwhile, the men's 8K saw Tuskegee finish in sixth place among an 18-team competition, trailing only Auburn Montgomery, West Alabama, Mobile, Montevallo, and Reinhardt.
The Golden Tigers' 188 points placed them solidly in the upper third of the field. Their cohesive effort demonstrated both veteran leadership and youthful energy across the roster.
Gabriel Carty was the first finisher for Tuskegee with a time of 28:08.2, good for a top 50 finish, followed closely by
Malcolm Kibiwot at 29:11.1.
Tuskegee's cross country teams now turn their attention to the upcoming Willie Laster Invitational on Friday, Sept. 19, where they hope to build on the positive results and continue refining the form that produced strong individual and team outcomes in Montevallo.
