Preview: Women’s Tennis Set for Crucial SIAC Round-Up in Mobile

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee University women's tennis team is set to compete in the second Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Round-Up this week, hosted at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.

Over a rigorous three-day stretch from April 2 through April 4, the Golden Tigers will face six league opponents: Fort Valley State (April 2, 9:00 a.m.), Savannah State (April 2, 4:00 p.m.), Benedict (April 3, 9:00 a.m.), Edward Waters (April 3, 1:00 p.m.), Albany State (April 4, 9:00 a.m.), and Spring Hill (April 4, 1:00 p.m.).

Tuskegee enters the round-up with a 9-4 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in SIAC play, sitting atop the conference standings.

Led by standout players like newly announced SIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week Tanyaradzwa Kaome, Chloe Griffin-Harrington, and Dayna Jackson, the Golden Tigers have demonstrated dominance across both singles and doubles courts during the opening half of the season.

Tuskegee's doubles pairings have particularly stood out, often securing early advantages with aggressive net play and strong court chemistry.

Fort Valley State will be the opening opponent on Tuesday morning.

The Wildcats have had an up-and-down season but remain a gritty, athletic squad capable of pushing opponents in long rallies.

Despite their struggles in the win-loss column, their top-line players have produced competitive results, and they are expected to provide a solid opening test for the Golden Tigers.

Later that afternoon, Tuskegee will take on Savannah State, a team that has emerged as one of the stronger programs in the SIAC over the past few seasons.

Savannah State's depth in the middle of the lineup and consistency in doubles make them one of the more balanced teams in the field. The matchup will be key for Tuskegee in maintaining its unblemished conference record.

Benedict (8-5 overall, 6-2 SIAC) will provide one of Tuskegee's most significant challenges on day two. Led by veteran players and a tactical approach to both singles and doubles, the Tigers have been among the conference's top contenders.

Their No. 1 singles player has earned multiple weekly honors, and the team's doubles strength has played a major role in their success.

Tuskegee will look to neutralize Benedict's top line while leveraging its own consistency at the bottom of the lineup.

Edward Waters, who enters Thursday afternoon's contest with a 6-7 overall mark, is a scrappy and athletic group that has earned some quality results this season.

While they have had mixed results in conference play, the Tigers have been known to challenge opponents with their energy and aggressive shot-making.

Tuskegee will look to establish early momentum and continue its trend of dominating the middle courts.

Friday's opener will pit Tuskegee against Albany State, who have historically been one of the SIAC's stronger programs.

Though their roster this season includes several newcomers, Albany's disciplined play and experience in tight matches make them a dangerous opponent. Tuskegee will need sharp execution in doubles and quick starts in singles to control the match.

The round-up will conclude with a highly anticipated matchup against Spring Hill, who enter the week with a 3-10 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the SIAC.

The Badgers feature a seasoned lineup led by experienced upperclassmen and have produced dominant results across the board. This match could serve as a de facto regular season conference title preview, with both teams entering as the top contenders for the league crown.

Tuskegee's roster, which includes a blend of experienced returners and talented newcomers, is battle-tested and riding a wave of confidence.

The team has been dominant at the top of the order with Kaome and Harrington, while solid depth at No. 4 through No. 6 singles has turned tight matches in the Golden Tigers' favor.

The three-day event in Mobile presents a critical stretch in Tuskegee's path to the SIAC Championship.

A strong showing would all but secure their place as the league's top seed heading into postseason play, while also offering another opportunity to refine their execution ahead of the home stretch.
