DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Tuskegee women's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 2 seed Embry Riddle Friday morning at the Crotty Tennis Complex in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Region #2 Tennis Tournament. The loss ends the season for the Golden Tigers (17-10) in the national tournament for the third consecutive season.Â
The Golden Tigers were playing short-handed, not fielding an entry at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. That came into play for the doubles' point as the Eagles needed to just win one of the two remaining matches. That happened at No. 2 doubles where Daniela Fernandez and Benedetta Sensi downed
Asia McRae and
Adjowa-Sika Serena Pascaline 6-2.
In singles competition, with another point in hand, Tuskegee was just two points from being eliminated. Sensi beat Leloni Payton (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2 and Charley Egger defeated
Gabrielle Geary (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5. The Golden Tigers trailed in the other three matches when play was halted.
