Women's Tennis draws Embry-Riddle to open NCAA tournament

On Monday night, Tuskegee found out where it would continue its season when the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis national tournament bracket was revealed. While selection shows have become standard operating procedure for the Golden Tigers - who are headed to the national postseason for the third consecutive year - the opponent is fairly new.

Tuskegee earned the No. 7 seed and were placed in the South Region #2 pod against No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle, which will host the pod in Daytona Beach, Fla. at the Crotty Tennis Complex The two teams will face-off on May 8 beginning at 9 a.m. The Golden Tigers come in as winners of the SIAC title for the third straight season while the Eagles were runner's up in the Sunshine State Conference but are currently ranked No. 3 in the ITA Division II rankings.

The tournament battle will be the second of the season between these two squads, who met for the first time ever on Mar. 14. While the Eagles won 4-0, the Golden Tigers were able to secure a win at No. 1 doubles when Leilani Payton and Ayawavi Vania Dotse took a 7-5 victory over Amelie Gindl and Carlota Balseiro. Tuskegee will need to build on that effort in hopes of securing a first-round upset of Embry-Riddle (21-2), whose only losses have come to Barry, the top team in the South Region.

This trip will mark the ninth time Tuskegee has earned a bid in the NCAA Division II national tournament, with matches against West Florida (2005-07), North Alabama (2008) Nova Southeastern (2009, 2025), and Barry (2012, 2024) also on the ledger.
