TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers volleyball team will face a key conference opponent, Stillman College, on Tuesday, October 1 at 6 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall. The game can be seen live on the HBCU+ network.
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (3-5, 1-3 SIAC)
The Golden Tigers, led by top attackers Ma'Kayla Jones, Moriah Seay, and Sian Sprinkle, have shown flashes of brilliance this season. Jones leads the team with 69 kills and 22 blocks, while Seay has 65 with a team-high 85 digs, followed by Sprinkle with 55 kills and 13 blocks.
Tuskegee is coming off a 3-0 home sweep against Oakwood University, where they showcased their defensive capabilities, led by Seay who had 12 digs in the win. Jones added 10 more kills to her totals while setter Mikea Allen had a game-high 21 assists.
Tuskegee has a balanced passing attack, with Allen contributing 153 assists (6.12/set) and Amara Dotson adding 82 (3.42/set). Despite their early struggles, Tuskegee's defense has been a bright spot, averaging nearly 15 digs per set. Defensive specialist Kiana Wilcher has also been strong on that side of the ball with 67 digs, while Allen is third on the roster with 48 so far.
ABOUT STILLMAN (5-10, 4-3 HBCUAC)
Stillman enters the match after a mixed start to their season, currently at 5-10 overall but boasting a 4-3 conference record in the new HBCU Athletic Conference.
Five Tigers have amassed at least 50 kills on the season so far, led by Paige Eason who has recorded team-highs of 82 kills and 21 service aces. Following Eason are Ava Cameron, Katelyn Lawson, and Raine Patterson at 77, 76, and 70 kills respectively, while Aeraeonna Manuel has added 60.
Emily Powell leads Stillman defensively with a team-high 200 digs through 15 games, followed by Eason with 105 and seven blocks. The team also has four players with double digit blocks. Their solid defense has kept them competitive in close matches, allowing them to remain above .500 in conference play.
