Tuskegee middle blocker
Helena Pommeret was named Newcomer of the Week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conferece, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, for her performance last week as the Golden Tigers posted an unblemished 4-0 mark.
Pommeret, a sophomore from Montpellier, France, was solid both offensively and defensively for the Golden Tigers, who went 4-0 at last week's Central State Cluster. She led the SIAC in hitting percentage (.481) and total blocks (16). Her blocks per set (1.14) was tied for sixth. She scored a season-high 13 points in a five-set win over Kentucky State, where she had eight kills, three service aces and three blocks (one solo). In the next match against Central State, she hit .642 (9-0-14) with three more blocks (one solo) as Tuskegee won in straight sets.
Pommeret joins teammates
Carmyn Lawson and
Sakiah Logan as winners of a SIAC weekly award this season. The Golden Tigers head back to Ohio this weekend to face more SIAC competition on Friday and Saturday with matches against Edward Waters, Benedict, and Savannah State.
