TROY, Ala. — The Tuskegee men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued their 2026 outdoor campaign this past weekend, competing at the Doc Anderson Invitational hosted by Troy University.
The Golden Tigers turned in several strong performances across sprint, distance, hurdle, relay, and field events, highlighting continued progress early in the outdoor season against a mix of NCAA and NAIA competition.
On the men's side,
Christopher Thomas Jr. delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the 400 meters with a time of 47.24. He also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 21.71. Freshman
Isaiah Waring posted a strong showing in both events as well, finishing fourth in the 400 meters (48.35) and placing 11th in the 200 meters (22.20).
Lamont Brinson contributed to the sprint group with a time of 22.60 in the 200 meters and 51.08 in the 400 meters, while
Ja'Michael Barnes recorded a 22.70 mark in the 200 and 53.75 in the 400. In the 100 meters,
Emilio Blackbourne led Tuskegee with a time of 10.87, followed by
Brent Priester at 11.43.
Tuskegee also saw success in the relays, as the men's 4x400 "A" team of
Christopher Thomas Jr.,
Shawn Jarrett II,
Lamont Brinson, and
Isaiah Waring placed second overall with a time of 3:15.66. Jarrett also placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.79.
In distance events, Malcolm Kibiwot led Tuskegee in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:09.15, while
Issiah Simms (16:34.45) and
Jayden Davidson (17:28.53) also contributed solid performances. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Bethel Kibet (10:57.24) and
Gabriel Carty (11:33.08) finished third and fourth, respectively.
In field events,
Aiden Bass recorded a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.60 meters, while
Brent Priester and
Lamont Brinson both posted marks of 6.52 meters and 6.37 meters, respectively, in the long jump.
Christopher Cammock led the throwers with a 39.22-meter mark in the discus and 12.50 meters in the shot put.
On the women's side,
An'Janae Latchinson highlighted the weekend with a first-place finish in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 54.95. She also contributed to Tuskegee's 4x400 relay "A" team, which placed second with a time of 3:52.76 alongside
Shaia Gallishaw,
Kanijah Angel, and
Mia Lindsey.
In the hurdles, Latchinson also posted a strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second overall in 1:00.55. Lindsey added depth in the event with a time of 1:05.19, while
Asia Nettles (1:07.67) and
Aaysha Furlow (1:08.64) rounded out the group.
The distance group was led by
Anaya Martin, who won the 1500 meters in 5:03.11 and placed third in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:46.78.
Akierah Walker added a fourth-place finish in the 1500 (5:12.15), while
Taylor Franklin (5:18.23) and
Malinah Whatley (5:29.72) contributed additional top-10 finishes.
In field events,
De'Shell Carr recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.27 meters, while Gallishaw followed closely with a 5.26-meter jump.
Danielle Wilson led the throws group with a third-place finish in the hammer throw (43.50 meters) and added a mark of 31.80 meters in the javelin.
Matealia Harper posted a 34.36-meter throw in the discus and 41.75 meters in the hammer, while
Dechyla Davis led Tuskegee in the shot put with a mark of 10.45 meters.
Tuskegee also saw contributions across the sprints, as Gallishaw (12.37) and
Mikayla Virgin (12.50) competed in the 100 meters, while Kanjah Angel led the team in the 200 meters with a time of 25.39.
With multiple event wins, top-three finishes, and strong depth performances, Tuskegee continues to build momentum as the outdoor season progresses.
The Golden Tigers will return to competition next weekend as they continue their outdoor schedule.
