CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Tuskegee men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued their early-season campaign this past weekend, competing at the Lee University Invitational held at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
The Golden Tigers delivered a well-rounded performance across sprint, distance, relay, and field events, building momentum in their second meet of the outdoor season.
Tuskegee's sprint group was led by
Christopher Thomas Jr., who turned in a strong performance in the 200 meters, finishing in 21.64, while also recording a time of 47.31 in the 400 meters to place among the top competitors in the field.
Justice Northern added a solid showing in the 200 meters with a time of 22.06 and later competed in the 400 meters, clocking 50.42. Freshman
Isaiah Waring posted times of 22.13 in the 200 meters and 49.20 in the 400 meters, continuing to show consistency in the sprint events.
Shawn Jarrett II contributed in both the sprints and hurdles, recording a time of 22.58 in the 200 meters and 53.82 in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the 100 meters,
Lamont Brinson led Tuskegee with a time of 11.08, while
Ja'Michael Barnes followed with an 11.18. Additional 200-meter performances came from Brinson (22.65),
Brent Priester (23.02), Barnes (23.02), and
Aiden Bass (23.55).
In the distance events, Issiah Simms ran 4:18.80 in the 1500 meters and 16:09.82 in the 5000 meters, while
Jayden Davidson posted times of 2:05.13 in the 800 meters and 4:25.34 in the 1500 meters. Bethwel Kibet added a 17:29.96 finish in the 5000 meters and a time of 11:07.58 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Tuskegee's relay teams also saw action, with the 4x100 relay team of Barnes, Jarrett II, Northern, and Thomas Jr. finishing in 42.36. The 4x400 relay "A" team (Thomas Jr., Northern, Jarrett II, Waring) posted a time of 3:15.79, while the "B" team finished in 3:42.69.
In the field events, Priester highlighted the group with a jump of 6.81 meters (22-4.25) in the long jump, while Bass added a mark of 5.66 meters (18-7). Brinson cleared 1.65 meters (5-5) in the high jump.
On the women's side, Tuskegee showed strength across multiple event groups.
An'Janae Latchinson led the sprint group with a 24.63 finish in the 200 meters and added a time of 14.20 in the 100-meter hurdles, placing among the top performers in both events.
Kanijah Angel posted a time of 25.10 in the 200 meters and added a 58.46 finish in the 400 meters, showcasing versatility across sprint distances.
Shaia Gallishaw (25.66),
Asia Nettles (25.97), and
De'Shell Carr (26.32) all contributed in the 200 meters, while
Mia Lindsey (26.93),
Jahkaya McBurney (27.16),
Aaysha Furlow (27.33),
Kelsey Sawyer (27.55), and
Christa Sims (28.48) rounded out Tuskegee's sprint efforts. In the 100 meters,
Christa Sims recorded a time of 13.32.
In distance events,
Anaya Martin led the group in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:27.41, followed by
Taylor Franklin (21:11.14),
Genesis Harrell (21:47.22), and Shaiyah Tresvant (22:34.62).
Malinah Whatley competed in both the 800 meters (2:35.74) and the 3000-meter steeplechase (13:43.04).
Tuskegee's relay teams performed well, with the 4x100 relay team of Gallishaw, Latchinson, Carr, and Angel finishing in 46.91, while the 4x400 relay team (Gallishaw, Sawyer, Sims, Carr) posted a time of 4:29.00.
In the field events,
De'Shell Carr led the way with a jump of 5.56 meters (18-3) in the long jump and cleared 1.55 meters (5-1) in the high jump. Gallishaw added a mark of 5.30 meters (17-4.75) in the long jump, while
Kelsey Sawyer recorded 4.87 meters (15-11.75).
In the throws,
Danielle Wilson posted a mark of 10.84 meters (35-6.75) in the shot put and 37.46 meters (122-11) in the discus, while also recording 42.58 meters (139-8) in the hammer throw and 30.94 meters (101-6) in the javelin.
Matealia Harper added marks of 10.02 meters (32-10.5) in the shot put, 34.88 meters (114-5) in the discus, 36.80 meters (120-9) in the hammer throw, and 29.94 meters (98-3) in the javelin.
Tuskegee's performances across both squads reflect a strong start to the outdoor season, with contributions in every event group highlighting the depth of the program.

The Golden Tigers will return to action later this week, traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in the Morehouse Relays, scheduled for Thursday through Sunday at the Edwin C. Moses Track.
