MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Tuskegee men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2026 outdoor season this weekend at the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo, delivering several standout performances across sprint, relay, and field events.
The Tuskegee women finished third overall with 136 points, while the Golden Tiger men placed fourth with 68 points in a competitive field that included several NCAA Division II programs.
Tuskegee's women's squad produced multiple scoring performances during the meet.
Kanijah Angel led the Golden Tigers in the sprint events, placing fourth in the women's 100 meters with a time of 12.02 seconds, earning five team points.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Shaia Gallishaw,
Mia Lindsey,
Aaysha Furlow, and
Kanijah Angel delivered a strong performance, finishing third overall with a time of 4:07.94 to secure eight points for Tuskegee.
In the throwing events,
Mia Lindsey and
Kelsey Sawyer both turned in strong efforts in the shot put, each recording a mark of 8.77 meters to finish among the top competitors in the event.
Additional performances came from
De'Shell Carr, who posted a throw of 7.61 meters, and
Jahkaya McBurney, who recorded 6.01 meters in the shot put.
Tuskegee also received sprint contributions from
Shaia Gallishaw,
Mikayla Virgin, and
Christa Sims in the 100-meter dash as the Golden Tigers showcased depth early in the outdoor season.
On the men's side, Tuskegee saw strong performances in both sprint events and relays.
In the 200 meters,
Christopher Thomas Jr. delivered one of the top performances of the day for the Golden Tigers, finishing third overall with a time of 21.85 seconds.
Tuskegee also placed multiple athletes in the event, including
Justice Northern, who finished eighth in 22.21 seconds, and
Isaiah Waring, who placed seventh with a time of 22.18 seconds.
The Golden Tigers closed the meet with a standout performance in the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Thomas Jr.,
Shawn Jarrett II,
Justice Northern, and Waring captured first place with a time of 3:36.03.
Tuskegee also fielded a 4x100-meter relay squad consisting of
Ja'Michael Barnes,
Shawn Jarrett II,
Justice Northern, and Thomas Jr., gaining valuable early-season experience in the sprint relay.
Additional appearances for Tuskegee came from Barnes, who competed in the 200 meters as the Golden Tigers continued to build depth across their sprint lineup.
