ATLANTA, Ga. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its weekly volleyball awards, and Tuskegee University claimed two of the honors as Chloe Edwards was named Defensive Player of the Week and Zariah Messick earned Newcomer of the Week.
Edwards played a pivotal role in Tuskegee's perfect 2-0 opening week, anchoring the Golden Tigers' back row with consistency and poise. Across six sets, she tallied a team-high 27 digs, averaging 4.5 per set, while also adding nine assists to spark the transition game.
Her defensive coverage proved critical in back-to-back sweeps over Stillman and Claflin, helping Tuskegee limit opponents to just a .084 hitting percentage across both matches.
Messick, a transfer making an immediate impact, shined on both sides of the ball to capture Newcomer of the Week recognition. She recorded a team-high 16 kills and 19 total points, while contributing 16 digs, two blocks and an ace across the week's contests.
With Edwards and Messick helping lead the charge, Tuskegee has established momentum in the early season as they prepare to continue their campaign, starting on Wednesday, Sept. 17 on the road against Oakwood in a non-conference matchup.
