Tuskegee hit .267 as a team and took advantage of a tough offensive night by Stillman to earn its fourth sweep in the last five contests (25-14, 25-17, 25-22) Tuesday night at Chappie James Arena.
Carmyn Lawson (12-2-24, .417) had three kills to start the match but got help from a slew of errors by Stillman en route to an early 9-0 advantage. Jordyn James (6-1-14, .357) had two blocks in that sequence and seven for the match (four solo) while the Tigers hit -.0069 in the opening set. Things did not get much better for Stillman in the second set trying to hit through the defensive front of James,
Erin Rogers and
Jameah Chappell, who combined for four blocks and forced another negative hitting percentage by the Tigers.
The final set was a bit more spirited as Tuskegee trailed by 1 before scoring five straight points, the last coming on a kill by Rogers that put the Golden Tigers ahead 15-11. Two Eva Stewart aces sandwiched three TU attack errors to give Stillman an 18-16 lead. But Tuskegee responded with five consecutive points to take the lead for good. Ava Cameron had a team-high 12 kills for Stillman.
Sakiah Logan had 13 digs and
Sahnee Dillahunt-Nedd added 10 assists for Tuskegee, which hosts South Carolina State on Thursday.
