TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee men's tennis team is set to return to the courts for the second Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Round-Up, held in Mobile, Alabama from April 2 through April 4.
Â
The Golden Tigers are scheduled to face five league opponents over the three-day slate: Spring Hill (April 2 at 9:00 a.m.), Fort Valley State (April 2 at 1:00 p.m.), Morehouse (April 3 at 9:00 a.m.), Benedict (April 3 at 1:00 p.m.), and LeMoyne-Owen (April 4 at 9:00 a.m.).
Â
All matches will take place at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
Â
Tuskegee enters the Round-Up with a 5-5 overall record AND 4-1 in the SIAC, and looking to continue their strong conference showing after facing a difficult non-conference schedule to start the year.
Â
The Golden Tigers have shown competitive signs in doubles play and are working to find rhythm and consistency in singles heading into conference competition.
Â
Spring Hill (9-5 overall, 5-0 SIAC) comes into the weekend as one of the league's top teams.
Â
The Badgers boast a balanced singles lineup led by Hugo Blasco Granell (11-2) and Tom Gutermann (9-5).
Â
In doubles, the duo of Granell and Gutermann is 11-3 and undefeated in league play. As a team, Spring Hill holds a 24-17 doubles record and a dominant 22-5 mark in singles across conference matchups.
Â
Fort Valley State enters the week with a mixed record but brings momentum from recent performances.
Â
The Wildcats have had competitive results and are paced by athleticism at the top of the lineup. They are expected to be a challenging matchup in day one's afternoon contest.
Â
Morehouse, who will face Tuskegee Thursday morning, has displayed growth in their depth this season.
Â
While the Maroon Tigers have had some early struggles, they field a scrappy lineup capable of forcing long matches, especially in the middle courts.
Â
Benedict (3-6 overall, 3-2 SIAC) has relied on the solid play of Jason Chigaazira (5-4 singles, 3-2 in conference) and Anesu Kwirirai (4-5 singles, 4-1 SIAC).
Â
In doubles, the Tigers' top duo of Kwirirai and Divgurjot Singh has produced a 5-3 overall record and a strong 4-1 conference mark.
Â
Benedict has shown vulnerability in the lower part of the singles order, which the Golden Tigers will look to exploit.
Â
LeMoyne-Owen rounds out the trip for Tuskegee on Friday morning. While still building their program, the Magicians have given valuable court time to a younger roster.
Â
They enter the matchup seeking their first conference victory of the year and are expected to compete with intensity and energy.
Â
For Tuskegee, the five-match slate presents a pivotal opportunity to not only begin SIAC play but also gain critical momentum for the remainder of the season.
Â
The SIAC Round-Up marks a critical juncture in the Golden Tigers' season, and a successful performance in Mobile could maintain the program's top standing as the spring schedule continues.
