Men's Tennis lands Barry in NCAA tourney opener

For the fifth time in program history, the Tuskegee men's tennis team has earned a spot in the Big Dance. On Monday night, the Golden Tigers found out who they would be facing in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Region tournament.

The champions of the SIAC will face No. 1 seed Barry on May 11 at 1 p.m. The Bucs, who won their ninth consecutive Sunshine State Conference title, are the hosts of the South Region #1 pod and will be a daunting opponent for the Golden Tigers, who make their first appearance in the national tournament since 2008. Barry is currently the No. 2 team in the ITA rankings and carry an undefeated record (20-0) into the opening round.

But while the Golden Tigers may be underdogs in the upcoming matchup, head coach Gregory Green has his team trending in the right direction heading into the South Region tourney. Tuskegee has won six of its last eight Division II matches since Apr. 1 and the only two losses came to Spring Hill, the team TU upended two weeks ago to win the SIAC title for the first time since 2006.

The matchup against Barry will be the first between the two programs. Tuskegee will be looking for its first win in the national tournament after attempts in 2004 (Valdosta State), 2005 (West Florida), 2006 (Valdosta State) and 2008 (Ouachita Baptist).
