MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Tuskegee men's tennis team had an arduous task in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Region #1 tournament. The Golden Tigers had to find a way to take down the top-seeded host, No. 2 Barry, at home and riding an undefeated regular season record into the matchup. While the Golden Tigers fought valiantly, it was the Bucs that swept away Tuskegee (12-15) 4-0 to end its first SIAC championship season in 20 years.
In doubles action,
Miles Wilson and
Kevin Wright were tied at 4 in their match at No. 3 but ultimately did not get to finish as
Thompson Thomu and
Tyler Ladge lost (6-1) at No. 1 and Shane Tepera and
Emmanuel Wettey fell (6-3) at No. 2.
Ty'lon Miller (6-0, 6-0 at No. 4), Wilson (6-1, 6-0 at No. 5) and
Kevin Wright (6-3, 6-0 at No. 3) were each swept to give Barry the victory. But Wettey was ahead 6-4, 2-0 at No. 6 when play was halted while Thomu (1-6, 4-5) was close to extending to a third set at No. 1 while Tapera (4-6, 5-0) was in the match in the opening set at No. 2, showing the grit that the team fought with agaisnt one of the top teams in the nation.
