Tuskegee Women’s Tennis Defeats Georgia Southwestern to Improve to 7-4

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee women's tennis team continued its strong spring campaign with a dominant 6-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern State in a non-conference matchup at the Pepsico Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Golden Tigers improved to 7-4 overall and remained unbeaten at home in 2025.

The Golden Tigers set the tone early in doubles play, securing the opening point with decisive wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 courts.

The duo of Tanyaradzwa Kaome and Leiloni Payton overwhelmed Georgia Southwestern's Monique Gundrum and Melissa Duarte 6-1 on the top court, while the pairing of Dayna Jackson and Gabrielle Blanks battled for a competitive 6-4 victory at No. 2 to sweep the doubles point.

In singles competition, Tuskegee asserted its depth across the lineup. Gabrielle Blanks was clinical at No. 2, rolling past Duarte 6-1, 6-0 to give the Golden Tigers a quick 2-0 lead.

That was followed by a dominant performance from Leiloni Payton, who dropped just four games en route to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Madeline Barnes at No. 3.

Dayna Jackson continued her stellar play at the No. 4 position, overpowering Mabry Bowron 6-0, 6-1, while Chloe Griffin-Harrington was equally impressive at No. 5, shutting out her opponent EmmaRae Smith 6-0, 6-0. Taylor Ford added another point by default at No. 6 singles.

The Hurricanes' lone point came at the top of the lineup, where Monique Gundrum defeated Kaome 6-2, 6-3 in a tightly contested matchup between the two top players.

Tuskegee's comprehensive victory showcased the team's balance of talent and consistency throughout the lineup. Head coach Gregory Green continues to guide the program toward new heights in 2025, with Friday's win marking yet another impressive home performance.
