Thompson’s Grand Slam Lifts Tuskegee Softball to 7-6 Victory Over Lane

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Alexis Thompson delivered a clutch performance at the plate, driving in four runs on three hits, including a grand slam, to propel Tuskegee to a thrilling 7-6 victory over Lane on Sunday.

The Golden Tigers built a commanding five-run lead in the fourth inning, but Lane mounted a late comeback before falling just short.

Tuskegee opened the scoring in the first inning when Carole Ross grounded out to bring home a run. Lane responded in the top of the second, taking a 2-1 lead on a pair of RBI singles.

However, the Golden Tigers quickly answered in the bottom half as Tamiya Martin drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 2-2.

The defining moment came in the fourth inning when Tuskegee broke the deadlock. Ross worked a bases-loaded walk to push across the go-ahead run before Thompson stepped to the plate and crushed a grand slam to left field, giving the Golden Tigers a commanding 7-2 advantage.

Lane refused to go down quietly, responding with a pair of runs on an RBI single and a solo home run to close the gap.

The Dragons continued to apply pressure late, but Tuskegee's bullpen held strong to secure the win.

Caroline Clark earned the victory for the Golden Tigers, allowing three hits and two unearned runs over 3.2 innings while striking out one. Monica Rose came in to close the game, collecting the save.

Jonni Sanchez took the loss for Lane after surrendering seven runs (five earned) on six hits across four innings.

Offensively, Jessica Morales had a strong outing, collecting two hits in three at-bats, while Martin displayed patience at the plate with two walks. The Golden Tigers showed discipline throughout, drawing five walks as a team.

With the win, Tuskegee wrapped up the weekend series on a high note, continuing to build momentum in conference play.
