Tuskegee Softball Dominates Lane in SIAC Opener with Doubleheader Sweep

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee softball opened SIAC play with a dominant doubleheader sweep over Lane at the TU Softball Field. The Golden Tigers secured a 9-1 victory in six innings in game one before completing the sweep with a 10-2 win in five innings in game two.

In the first game, Ava Merideth powered the Tuskegee offense, driving in four runs on two hits, including a two-run single in the third inning and a two-run home run to left field in the fifth.
 
Tuskegee broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when Tamiya Martin singled to bring home the first run of the game.
 
The Golden Tigers extended their lead in the fifth, as Merideth's homer and a two-run double from Kaeley Roldan helped push the advantage to 7-1. The game ended in the sixth when Tuskegee plated two more runs to secure the run-rule victory.
 
Pitcher Monica Rose delivered a strong performance in the circle, allowing just four hits and one run over six innings while striking out eight batters and walking one. Lane's Autumn Phillips took the loss after giving up seven runs (five earned) on ten hits in 4.2 innings of work.
 
Tuskegee finished with 11 hits in the opener, led by Merideth and Carole Ross, who both recorded two hits.
 
The Golden Tigers played flawless defense, committing no errors, while Roldan led the team with eight chances in the field.
 
Tuskegee 10, Lane 2
In game two, the bottom of the lineup propelled Tuskegee to a 10-2 win, as Victoria Harrison, Nylah Strange-Lindley, and Jessica Morales combined for four of the team's eight hits while contributing four runs and three RBIs.
 
The Golden Tigers exploded for six runs in the first inning, capitalizing on timely hits and Lane errors.
 
Alexis Thompson and Merideth each hit RBI doubles, while Alarryn Beckley and Morales added run-producing hits.
 
Tuskegee continued to apply pressure, adding a run in the second and another in the third on a solo home run from Harrison. The game ended in the fifth after the Golden Tigers tacked on two more runs, sealing the victory.
 
Kamya Hampton earned the win for Tuskegee, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) in five innings while striking out seven and walking none.
 
Morales led Tuskegee with two hits in the second game, while Harrison and Thompson each drove in two runs. The Golden Tigers also used their speed, swiping four bases in the contest.
 
With the wins, Tuskegee improves to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in SIAC play. The Golden Tigers will look to continue their strong start to conference play as they wrap up the series against Lane on Sunday.

The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon, with game three between the programs set for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch at the TU Softball Field.
