BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tuskegee track and field teams showcased their talent and determination at the Vulcan Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
This meet marked the third indoor competition of the season for Tuskegee, and the athletes delivered commendable performances across various events.
In the sprints, senior
Anitria Sangster led the team in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.98 seconds. She continued to demonstrate her versatility by securing 18th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.29 seconds.
Junior
An'Janae Latchinson made a significant impact in the 400-meter dash, finishing 10th with a time of 58.01 seconds. Latchinson later took home seventh place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74.
Sangster also competed in the 400 meters, placing 14th at 58.36 seconds, while
Amira Broussard completed the event in 1:02.15.
In middle-distance events,
Akierah Walker completed the 800-meter run in 2:27.07. In the mile run,
Anaya Martin recorded a time of 5:45.14.
Both
De'Shell Carr and
Amira Broussard earned top 25 finishes in the long jump with marks of 5.24 meters and 5.05 meters, while
Danielle Wilson led the team with a finish at 18th in the shot put at 10.88 meters.
The Golden Tigers also had two athletes participate in the pentathlon, with
Jahkaya McBurney finishing fourth with 2,753 points, followed by
Serenity Mitchell with 1,902, finishing eighth.
Laquenton Underwood led the men's sprints in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.08 seconds. In the 200-meter dash,
Justice Northern was the top performer for Tuskegee, finishing 27th with a time of 22.64 seconds, closely followed by
Shawn Jarrett II, who finished at 22.72 seconds.
Northern also competed in the 400-meter dash, securing a new personal best with a time of 50.55 seconds. Jarmarqus Jones finished later in the same event, clocking in at 51.51 seconds.
In the 800-meter run,
Jayden Davidson led the team, recording a time of 2:01.27, followed by a 13th-place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:37.26.
Dennis Kibet (4:45.96),
Carl Richards (4:47.98), and
Edgar Kosgei (4:48.15) all finished in the top 25 in the men's mile.
In the field events, freshman
Christian Goode and
Jackson Murry represented Tuskegee in the men's pole vault, achieving marks of 3.65 and 3.50 meters, respectively which placed them 13th and 14th overall.
Michael Oloye (12.30m) and
Christian Sanders (11.91m) finished 17th and 19t in the triple jump, while
Christian Sanders and
Justin Guynn both jumped a distance of 1.76 meters in the high jump.

The Golden Tigers will continue their indoor season and remain in Birmingham with for their next meet, the Green & Gold Invite, also hosted by UAB. The meet is set for Saturday, February 8, also inside the Birmingham CrossPlex.
