BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tuskegee track and field teams delivered commendable performances at the UAB Green & Gold Invite, held over the weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Competing against a strong field, both the men's and women's teams showcased their talent and determination across various events.
In the sprints, senior Anitria Sangster led the Golden Tigers with a notable performance in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 25.10 seconds, securing 11th place overall.
Junior An'Janae Latchinson also delivered a strong showing in the same event, finishing 15th with a time of 25.46 seconds, while Amira Broussard contributed with a time of 26.56 seconds.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team, comprising Broussard, Latchinson, Akierah Walker, and Jahkaya McBurney, demonstrated teamwork and endurance, finishing 10th with a time of 4:10.15.
The 800 meters saw Walker doubling back for another strong showing, finishing 16th with a time of 2:28.50. Freshmen Genesis Harrell and Jurni Janac also competed, finishing with times of 2:37.57 and 2:38.66, respectively.
Distance runner Anaya Martin led the way for Tuskegee in the mile, finishing at 5:38.10. She also placed 23rd in the 3000 meters, finishing at 11:37.31.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team—comprising Walker, McBurney, Broussard, and Latchinson—finished 10th with a time of 4:10.15, demonstrating cohesion and endurance.
Latchinson also earned a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, coming close to her personal best in the event with a time of 8.85 seconds.
In the field events, De'Shell Carr competed in the long jump, placing 20th at 4.94 meters. Meanwhile, Matealia Harper (10.23m) and Danielle Wilson (10.05m) both finished in the top 30 in the shot put.
On the men's side, freshman Jackson Murry led the team in the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 23.06 seconds. Freshman Ethan Zagore Jr. followed, running in 23.21 seconds, while fellow freshman Lamont Brinson finished with a time of 23.40 seconds.
In the 400 meters, sophomore Shawn Jarrett II delivered a solid performance, running a time of 51.52 seconds. Freshmen Jamarqus Jones and Javonte Andrews also competed, recording times of 52.08 and 52.76 seconds, respectively.
Justice Northern had a strong finish in the 600 meters, finishing with a time of 1:24.22, good for 13th, followed by teammates Deinkepribo Harry and Shawn Katsidzira at 1:32.82 and 1:33.75 for 25th and 26th, respectively.
In the 800 meters, Carl Richards crossed the finish line in 2:01.91, placing 18th, while Jayden Davidson followed closely in 21st with a time of 2:03.02. Davidson also finished in the top 30 in the mile run with a time of 4:36.38.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team, featuring Javonte Andrews, Jarrett II, Jones, and Northern showcased their relay capabilities, completing the race in 3:23.56, securing sixth place.
In the pole vault, both Jackson Murry (3.80m) and Christian Goode (3.65m) finished in the top 20. Zagore Jr. finished 19th in the long jump at 6.27 meters, while Michael Oloye (12.47m) and Christian Sanders (12.09m) finished 18th and 19th, respectively.

The Golden Tigers will return to action later this month in the SIAC Indoor Championships, set for February 20 and 21 in Louisville, Kentucky at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
