TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee track and field teams are ready to compete in their second indoor meet of the season at the South Alabama Indoor Invitational on Sunday, February 2.
The meet will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex and comes after a strong start to the season at the KMS Invitational, where the Golden Tigers delivered strong performances across multiple events.
At the KMS Invitational, also in Birmingham, the men's team demonstrated its depth and talent with several notable performances.
Freshman sprinter Laquenton Underwood made an immediate impact in the 60-meter dash, advancing through the preliminaries with a time of 7.02 seconds. Underwood improved in the semifinals, clocking in at 6.92 seconds, before securing a podium finish in the finals with a time of 6.86 seconds, placing third overall.
In the 600-meter run, freshman Shawn Jarrett II displayed his promise by finishing fourth with a time of 1:27.72.
The men's 4x400 Relay team of Justice Northern, Jarrett II, Javonte Andrews, and Jackson Murry took home a third place finish with a time of 3:25.36, while the Distance Medley Relay team of Jarmarqus Jones, Deinkepribo Harry, Jarrett II, and Northern impressed with a second-place finish, completing the event in 11:21.95.
The women's team also had a strong showing at the KMS Invitational, highlighted by senior sprinter Anitria Sangster's performance in the 60-meter dash.
Sangster advanced to the semifinals with a time of 7.84 seconds and finished ninth in the finals with a time of 7.93 seconds. She added to her performance in the 200-meter dash, securing seventh place with a time of 25.42 seconds.
Veteran distance runner Anaya Martin made her mark with a fifth-place finish in the mile run, clocking in at 5:51.41, and a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 12:05.94.
The women's Distance Medley Relay team of Genesis Harrell, Akierah Walker, Jahkaya McBurney, and Martin delivered a dominant performance, earning first place with a time of 14:01.45, while the 4x400 team of Sangster, Amira Broussard, Jurni Janac, and McBurney took fourth with a time of 4:08.56.
As the Golden Tigers prepare for the South Alabama Indoor Invitational, anticipation is high for continued success. The athletes have been building on the momentum from their season opener and are eager to compete against a strong field.
