ALBANY, Ga. – The Tuskegee Golden Tigers wrapped up their weekend at the SIAC Crossover with a mixed set of results, going 1-1 on the final day. After falling 3-1 to Benedict College in the morning, Tuskegee bounced back in commanding fashion, sweeping Savannah State 3-0 to close out the weekend.
The Golden Tigers finished the weekend with momentum heading into the next phase of their season.
Benedict 3, Tuskegee 1
Tuskegee started the day with a challenging match against Benedict College, falling in four sets (25-20, 20-25, 10-25, 13-25). Despite the loss, the Golden Tigers showed resilience, pushing Benedict in each set.
Tuskegee came out strong in the opening set 25-23, taking an early 1-0 lead. Benedict rallied in the second and rebounded for the remaining sets. TU received excellent play from Ma'Kayla Jones and
Sian Sprinkle, who combined for critical kills that helped the Golden Tigers win the first set.
Freshman
Taylor Coleman led the Golden Tigers offensively with a career-high eight kills, while Sprinkle added seven kills and contributed defensively with three blocks. Senior
Moriah Seay was a standout again on the back line, posting 11 digs to anchor the defense, followed by eight from
Ziniah Hardy.
Both setters added 15 assists in the match, with
Amara Dotson adding six digs, while
Mikea Allen added four kills and a pair of kills.
Tuskegee 3, Savannah State 0
In the second match of the day, Tuskegee bounced back to sweep Savannah State (26-24, 27-25, 25-18) and close out the SIAC Crossover on a high note. The Golden Tigers came out with energy and focus, controlling the match from start to finish.
Offensively, Sprinkle continued her impressive play, leading Tuskegee with 12 kills along with two blocks. Allen also had another well-rounded performance, dishing out 33 assists while contributing defensively with five digs.
Defensively, a pair of Golden Tigers finished with double-digit digs, led by Hardy with a season-high 13 along with ten more for Seay to go along with her nine kills.
Tuskegee's balanced attack and strong defensive effort were key to the victory, as the Golden Tigers held Savannah State to a .060 hitting percentage and forced 29 attack errors.

With the SIAC Crossover complete, Tuskegee turns its attention to its next matchup, a home game against Oakwood, set for Monday, September 23. First serve is set for 5 p.m. inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
