TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee softball picked up a non-conference win against Point University, 3-1, in a midweek home game at the TU Softball Field. Both teams were strong in the circle in the contest, as both
Kamya Hampton and Alyssa Burrows pitched complete games.
Tuskegee got on the board to start in the bottom of the first inning.
T'yauna Rector walked to lead off the lineup, stealing second and third, followed by
Kaeley Roldan being hit by pitch and a walk from
Jessica Morales to load the bases. On the next at-bat,
Jada Chadwick hit a sacrifice fly to right, allowing Rector to score the first run, while Roldan later scored on an error for the 2-0 lead.
Point ended its scoreless effort in the top of the third, thanks to a pair of hits, including an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. However, the Golden Tigers added a run for security in the bottom of the fourth.
Victoria Harrison got on with a bunt single and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Hampton earned the win for Tuskegee, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out four and walking two. Meanwhile, Burrows gave up three runs on three hits, striking out two and walking five in the loss.
Harrison, Rector, and
Nylah Strange-Lindley all earned a hit on the day for the Golden Tigers, while Chadwick and
Carole Ross both drove in runs. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing five walks, while also stealing ten total bases, led by Harrison, Morales, and Rector each with multiple steals.
