Golden Tigers Drop Pair of Games on First Day of Play in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga.  __ The Tuskegee softball team dropped its first two games to start the Red-White-Blue Classic, hosted by Columbus State, first falling 7-0 to Union, before a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to Lenoir Rhyne at Cougar Field.

The Golden Tigers had trouble keeping up offensively in the first game of the day against Union, as they fell 7-0.
 
After a scoreless first on both sides, Union got on the board in the second inning on an RBI single from Bryleigh Carneal. Later, an error extended the Bulldog lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third.
 
Caroline Clark took the loss for Tuskegee in the circle, working three and one-third innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking four. Kamya Hampton pitched for 2.2 innings in relief, allowing six hits and two runs.
 
Jessica Morales, Ty'auna Rector, and Kaeley Roldan all collected hits at the for the Golden Tigers, who combined for just three hits as a team.
 
Lenoir Rhyne 6, Tuskegee 5
A walk-off left Tuskegee on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Lenoir Rhyne in the second game for the Golden Tigers on the day. The game was tied at 5-5 at the bottom of the seventh before an RBI single from the Bears to take the one-score win.
 
TU lost despite outhitting Lenoir Rhyne nine to seven. Three different batters earned multiple hits in the game, including Morales, Rector, and Carole Ross.
 
The Golden Tigers got on the board in the opening inning after a bases loaded sacrifice fly from Victoria Harrison and an RBI double from Ross to bring home two more runs.
 
The Bears responded in the fifth, regaining the lead after scoring three runs on just two hits and capitalizing off an error. Tuskegee tied the game on an RBI single from Ross, earning her second hit of the game, to tie the game at 5-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
 
Hampton started the game in the circle for TU, giving up five hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings of work. Clark made an appearance out of the bullpen, earning the loss, allowing a run on just two hits and facing seven batters.
 
Brooklin Heavner earned the start and recorded a complete game for Lenoir Rhyne, allowing nine hits and five runs.
 
Up Next
Tuskegee will remain in Columbus for the final day of action at Cougar Field, as they close the weekend with Georgia College & State at 9:30 a.m. and host Columbus State at 1:30 p.m.
