TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Coming off a high-scoring win last week in the Boeing Red Tails Classic, Tuskegee will now set its sights on the first true road game of the year, in a battle against Kentucky State on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Alumni Stadium. The game is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on HBCU Plus.

GAME NOTES
- Tuskegee and Kentucky State will play one another for the 32nd time this weekend, with the Golden Tigers holding a 21-11-0 record against the Thorobreds. Kentucky State took the first meeting between programs in 1907 by a score of 16-0. After an eight-game losing streak to start the series, Tuskegee won 13 straight games from 1997-2010, and 21 of the last 24 games. In their last meeting, the Golden Tigers clinched the SIAC West crown with a 28-7 road win.
- With the 37-31 game against Fort Valley State on Sunday in the Boeing Red Tails Classic, the Golden Tigers earned their first win of the three-year classic, along with gaining the first win for Aaron James in his head coaching debut.
- Tuskegee freshman WR DeJuan McGhee has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Special Teams Player of the Week following the Golden Tigers' 37-31 season opening victory over Fort Valley State on Sunday. McGhee returned three total kickoffs in the Boeing Red Tails Classic, averaging 45.0 yards per return. The freshman gained 23 and 20 yards on his first two kickoff returns of the game, before proving to be a crucial part of the contest in the third quarter after returning a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving Tuskegee a 20-point lead at 37-17. He totaled 135 yards on his three returns to help the Golden Tigers on their way to a 1-0 start in 2023 heading into week two.
- The connection between returning starting quarterback Bryson Williams and receiver Antonio Meeks picked up right where they left off last season, with Meeks finishing with six catches for 149 yards and a touchdown on his way to being named the game's Most Valuable Player, while Williams completed 12-of-17 passes (70.6 percent) for 217 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. Meanwhile, the running back duo of freshman Zina Mulbah and sophomore Chase Sellers combined for a pair of scores on the ground.
- Defensively, the Golden Tigers forced timely turnovers, with interceptions from newly converted sophomore cornerback Mikael King and junior Christian Ramsey, while also forcing and recovering a Wildcat fumble in the fourth quarter.
- Tuskegee had 21 players make their Golden Tiger debut this past weekend against Fort Valley State. The Golden Tigers had seven players make their first career start this past weekend against Fort Valley State in graduate student Jayden Barfield, juniors Jarell Culberth and Elliott Howell, King, along with freshmen Jaden Campbell, Deondre Chatmon, and Mulbah.
- Campbell, Culberth, Chatmon, Mulbah all made their first career starts as true freshmen in their collegiate debuts, while King made his first start after serving primarily in the return game last season and making the switch from receiver to cornerback during the offseason.
LAST MEETING
- With the 28-7 win over the Thorobreds in 2022, Tuskegee not only extended their streak to seven games, but also clinched the SIAC West Division title and a berth to the SIAC Championship game later this season.
- The Golden Tigers were outgained 171-138 on the ground, however out performed the Thorobreds 245 to just 56 yards through the air. Tuskegee accounted for 383 yards of total offense, while Kentucky State had just 227.
- For the second straight game, the passing attack was crucial in the win, as Williams finished 11-for-17 for 245 yards and a pair of scores. The junior averaged 14.4 yards per attempt and 22.3 yards per completion on the day.
- Meeks had his second consecutive game with multiple touchdown receptions, while also accounting for six catches and a career-high 212 yards in the win. Meanwhile, four other receivers caught passes, with Rodricus Magee being the only other receiver with multiple catches.
- Davir Hamilton-Jackson led the way defensively, ending the day with 11 total tackles, including eight solos and three assisted. The senior also had a pair of sacks and an interception in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Vincent Hill and Malik Moore finished with eight and seven tackles respectively, with Hill having two for loss.
