Tuskegee University proudly celebrates one of its football legends as former NFL defensive back Roosevelt Williams has been selected as a member of the 2027 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Hall of Fame Class, one of the highest honors bestowed upon former student-athletes and contributors within the conference. The announcement was made during the 2026 SIAC Football Media Day in Macon, Ga.
Williams' induction recognizes a remarkable football career that began at Tuskegee University before reaching the highest level of professional football. After transferring to Tuskegee, Williams quickly established himself as one of the premier defensive backs in NCAA Division II and HBCU football history.
A four-time First Team All-SIAC selection and All-American, Williams anchored one of the nation's most dominant defenses while helping lead the Golden Tigers to the 2000 Black College National Championship. His exceptional play earned invitations to the prestigious NFL Scouting Combine and Senior Bowl, where he showcased his talent among the nation's elite prospects.
The Chicago Bears selected Williams in the third round (72nd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. During his professional career, he played in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, and Cleveland Browns before continuing his career in the Canadian Football League. Following his playing career, Williams transitioned into coaching, mentoring student-athletes at both the collegiate and professional levels.

His accomplishments have brought tremendous pride to Tuskegee University, and we are honored to see his legacy forever enshrined in the SIAC Hall of Fame."
Williams becomes the latest Golden Tiger alongside Drayton Florence and Frank Walker to receive one of the conference's highest distinctions, further strengthening Tuskegee University's rich football tradition and its longstanding legacy of producing championship student-athletes, professional players, and transformational leaders.
Founded in 1992, the SIAC Hall of Fame honors former student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and contributors whose achievements have made a lasting impact on the conference and collegiate athletics. Tuskegee University has consistently been one of the conference's most celebrated institutions, producing Hall of Fame members whose influence extends far beyond competition.
Williams will officially be inducted during the 2027 SIAC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held in conjunction with the 2027 SIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament.
