GAME NOTES
- Tuskegee (3-0, 2-0 SIAC) hosts Lane (0-3, 0-2 SIAC) on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m., in the 28th meeting between the two programs. The game will be streamed on both the Tuskegee Digital Network (Tuskegee Athletics Facebook) and the Black College Sports Network with Frank Lee (play-by-play) and Ken Woodard (analyst).
- Tuskegee holds a 26-1-0 record against the Dragons. After a 25-game winning streak to start the series, Tuskegee fell in the last meeting between the two programs in Abbott Memorial Stadium, on October 23, 2021. TU won the last matchup in 2022, in the inaugural Bluff City Classic, hosted in Memphis, Tennessee by a score of 35-31.
- The Golden Tigers are looking to start a season 4-0 for the first time since 2016. The 2016 Tuskegee football team started 6-0 on the year, including a 6-1 mark in the SIAC and earning a berth to the NCAA Division II Playoffs, reaching the second round.
- The Golden Tigers have won ten of its last 12 games against conference opponents, with the last two losses being the 2022 Red Tails Classic and in last year's SIAC Championship Game, hosted by top seed Benedict College inside Charlie W. Johnson Stadium. They have also won seven of its last ten conference home games, along with being is 19-6 (.760) in its last 25 conference home games. Overall, TU is 41-9 (.820) in its last 50 home games inside of Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium.
- Tuskegee is 13-12 (.520) in its last 25 games in September, and 26-15 in the month dating back to the 2013 season, which includes an 8-4 (.667) home record and 8-5 record in neutral site games.
- Tuskegee is tied for the nation's lead in 4th down conversion defense (.000), blocked punts allowed (0), passes intercepted (0), fifth in passing yards per completion (17.6 ypc), sixth in the nation in team tackles for loss (4.0 pg), ninth in the nation in interceptions (6), and ninth in turnovers lost with just two.
- In the 27 total meetings between the programs, Tuskegee has outscored Lane 1,022-297 (37.9-11.0).
- The series between universities started in 1930, as the teams traded home games in 1930 and 1931. The teams also met for consecutive years in 1966-67, before Lane entered the SIAC. This weekend's meeting will be the 22nd in the last 23 seasons, dating back to 1998.
- Tuskegee won the first 25 games in the series by a combined score of 970-245, as well as winning 26 of 27 total matchups, with the lone loss being a 17-21 game at home in 2021. Tuskegee held Lane scoreless in five games in the series, the first a 40-0 win in 1931, while the last was an 11-0 win in 2002.
- There have only been four games in the series decided by single digits, with TU holding a 3-1 record in those games. Tuskegee has won 22 of its 26 games in the series by double digits, while Lane does not have a double-digit win in the series.
- Tuskegee has scored at least 30 points in the series 19 times, at least 40 points 17 times, 50-plus points three times, and 60-plus twice. The Golden Tigers have held Lane to under 20 points in 21 of its 27 meetings overall, while TU has been held under 20 points just four times (last 2021).
LAST MEETING
- When the teams were last on the field, Tuskegee defeated Lane, 35-31, in the inaugural Bluff City Classic, held inside of Crump Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee.
- Bryson Williams led the way offensively, going 12-for-17 through the air for 218 yards and three touchdowns, along with 40 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.
- Five different receivers caught passes on the day, led by Antonio Meeks with a career high six catches for 141 yards and two scores. Rodricus Magee caught three passes in the win, while Deondre Harvey, Jonathan Montrevil, and Corey Petty all caught one pass in the win.
- The Golden Tigers pulled out the victory despite rushing for just 81 yards on the day, after rushing for an average of 236.6 yards over the previous five wins.
- With the win, Tuskegee not only extended their win streak but gained a lead in the SIAC West standings, as they are currently the top team in the division with two games remaining.
- Vincent Hill led the way defensively in his return from injury with 11 tackles, including nine solos and two tackles for loss, followed by Malik Moore with nine solo stops and Davir Hamilton-Jackson with eight total tackles. Meanwhile, cornerback Dynte Brown forced the lone turnover for the Golden Tiger defense with an interception in the third quarter, his first of the year.
