Pair of Golden Tigers to Represent Tuskegee at HBCU Legacy Bowl

NEW ORLEANS, La. – A pair of Golden Tigers will represent Tuskegee University at the second annual HBCU Legacy Bowl on Feb. 25 inside Yulman Stadium on the campus of Tulane University, set to be televised live on the NFL Network at 3 p.m. (CT).
 
Former standouts Wesley Appolon (Montreal, Canada) and Taurean Taylor (Scottdale, Ga.) will both take part in the minicamp this week leading up to the game, along with the HBCU Combine.
 
The Golden Tigers are coming off a bounce-back season, going 8-3 on the season including a perfect 7-0 in SIAC play, before falling in the Championship game to Benedict.
 
Taylor finished second in the SIAC in all-purpose yards with 114.9 yards per game along with 756 rushing yards and averaging 94.5 yards per game, despite missing two games, also good for second in the league. The back also finished third in rushing touchdowns and fourth in yards per rush, while rushing for more than 100 yards twice on the year, each time going over the 200-yard mark. He also scored in five games on the year, including a four-touchdown day against Central State where he accounted for a career-high 232 rushing yards.
 
Appolon battled back from injury over the past season, finishing with 18 total tackles for the Golden Tiger defensive unit. When fully healthy in 2021, the linebacker finishing second on the team with 79 total tackles, including 3.5 for loss (-4 yards) while also adding a pair of sacks (-13 yards), along with three quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and an interception.
 
The HBCU Combine, in collaboration with the NFL, will be held on Feb. 20 at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center, the New Orleans Saints practice facility. All 32 NFL clubs are expected to be in attendance.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, is a postseason all-star game showcasing the best NFL draft-eligible football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
