TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University softball team wraps up a nine-game home stand Wednesday afternoon, hosting the University of West Alabama in a doubleheader in non-conference softball.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
Tuskegee (10-25, 8-4 SIAC) and West Alabama (14-24, 6-18 GSC) met earlier this season with West Alabama winning both games in Livingston. The Tigers won both games during the midweek contest in which they scored 15 runs in both games.
The Lady Golden Tigers will play their third non-conference doubleheader during the current home stand. They have split doubleheaders with West Georgia and Alabama A&M during the stand, and will finish off their non-conference portion of the schedule against North Alabama later next week.
Tuskegee is led a pair of freshman this season including
Sharde Thomas who leads the conference in hitting at .482. She picked up 10 hits over the past week against Alabama A&M and Spring Hill, and has recorded a team-high 40 hits. She is tied for the team lead in runs scored (22) with junior
Jamaica Williams, who leads the team in homeruns (four).
Fellow freshman
Kaylin Finch is second on the team in hitting at .287 with three homeruns and a team-high 18 runs batted in. She also leads the team in earned run average at 4.64. Finch (4-8) leads the team in innings pitched (74.0) and strikeouts (43).
Senior
Karisa Foye (1-5) is second the team in ERA at 4.73 in 40 innings pitched. She has recorded 11 strikeouts this season. Meanwhile, fellow senior
Chante Warner is hitting .287 with 27 its and 13 runs scored. Both players missed the first time that Tuskegee and West Alabama met.
