Tuskegee sweeps Talladega

PELL CITY, Ala. -- Tuskegee (26-7) remained on its dominant run by sweeping a doubleheader from Talladega (5-24) on Wednesday, winning the opener 18-0 and the nightcap 11-2. Both games concluded in five innings due to the eight-run rule.

In Game One, Monica Rose allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out 11 to earn her 12th win of the season. The hits were all singles and no one reached third base for the Tornadoes. The only trouble for the Golden Tigers came in the fourth inning when Talladega started with two straight singles, but Rose would strike out the next three hitters to end the threat. Meanwhile, the offense put the game out of reach early in scoring 14 runs in the first two innings. Daniella Simon drove in three runs, Payton Dunham, Kenya Tatum and Allaryn Beckley each had two RBI and Taneah Gibbons hit a solo home run to center in the first two frames.

In the second contest, Tuskegee was similarly in control. Jordyn Belote had a two-run single in the first and a sac fly RBI in the second and Martha Hurt added RBI in the second and third innings as the Golden Tigers raced out to a 6-0 edge after three innings. That was more than enough for Jordan Garcia, who pitched the complete-game victory. She gave up 10 hits and two runs but the TU offense gave her plenty of support, collecting 15 hits and adding six walks and a hit-by-pitch to the offensive arsenal.

Tuskegee is back in action this weekend when it travels to face Kentucky State in a three-game SIAC series.
