Tuskegee and Miles battle for top seed

Teams will play a rare mid-week conference series

** Miles College has changed the time of the games at Parker High School to 3 pm and 5 pm on Tuesday **

BIRMINGHAM |
With just one week remaining in the conference season, the Tuskegee University softball team finds itself in a position where they control their own destiny heading into a rare mid-week series against Miles College in Birmingham.

The series, originally scheduled for mid-March, will begin on Tuesday afternoon at Parker High School with a doubleheader. First pitch between Tuskegee (16-27, 14-4 SIAC) and Miles (16-32, 15-6 SIAC) is scheduled for 4 pm. The series will conclude with a single game on Wednesday afternoon.

The field has been set for the SIAC Softball Championships with the results from the past weekend, and now it is just a battle for seeding. The magic number was at five at the beginning of last weekend for Tuskegee, and is now down to two to wrap up the top seed from the West Division.

The Lady Golden Tigers come into the game riding a six-game winning streak in conference play led by freshman Kaylin Finch. The freshman has posted a 4-0 marks in the last two conference weekends, and is hitting near .700 in those six games. This past weekend, Finch (8-9, 3.80 ERA) earned two wins over LeMoyne-Owen as she gave up just two runs in two games.

She got some help offensively as the Lady Golden Tigers hit the ball all over the ballpark en route to outscoring LeMoyne-Owen 34-2 in the three games. They also got homeruns from Sharde Thomas (first career homerun), Karisa Foye (first this season), Jamaica Williams (sixth of the season) and Finch (sixth of the season).

Foye (2-5, 4.11 ERA) also got a win this weekend against LeMoyne-Owen, recording a shutout while striking out seven in a complete game effort.

Thomas continues to lead Tuskegee in hitting, as she is batting .482 in 34 games this season. She has scored 32 runs, has 10 extra-base hits and has 10 stolen bases to her credit. Finch is hitting .389 with 13 extra-base hits and a team-leading 30 RBI. Seniors Kenyah Smith and Chante Warner have come on as of late at the plate, hitting .312 and .308 respectively.
