TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University track and field programs will conclude their regular season this weekend at the Cougar Classic, hosted by Columbus State University on Saturday inside Kinnett Stadium.
The meet will be the sixth and final meet for the Golden Tigers as they prepare for the SIAC Championships to be held in Rock Hill, South Carolina April 14-16.
The meet will begin at 10 am (est) with the women's pole vault and men's long jump. It will continue to roll through the field schedule until the last events – women's shot put and men's discus – begin at 1 pm (est).
The track events will begin with the 10,000 meter run at 10:30 am (est) and continue through the last event at 4 pm (est) – the 4x400 meter relay.
Tuskegee has several athletes who are close to the NCAA provisional standard, and who have performed well over the regular season.
Vincent Williams and
Darvelle Smith each won events last week at the Emory Classic, while Williams is ranked 94th in the country in the shot put with a distance of 13.76 meters (provisional mark is 15.95 meters).
Greg Coleman is just over a meter short of the NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump and is ranked 65th overall, while he is also just 0.37 meters from the provisional mark in the high jump.
On the women's side,
Destiny McLendon is just 0.44 meters shy of the NCAA provisional mark in the long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters.
