ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | The Tuskegee University softball team will travel south looking for their first victory of the season as they take part in the Flagler Tournament beginning Saturday against the host team.
Tuskegee (0-11) will face Flagler (7-8) in the opener at 12 noon (est) Saturday, followed by a 4:30 pm (est) game against Eckerd (6-1-1).
The tournament will be the third of the month of February for Tuskegee, and by the end of this weekend they will have played their 15th consecutive game on the road to open the season.
Despite their slow start, the Lady Golden Tigers have made strides through the first 11 games that have consisted of seven games against teams from the Gulf South Conference, one from the South Atlantic and three games against teams from the Peach Belt Conference – including ninth-ranked Georgia College. During their first 11 games, freshman
Roneshia Rudolph leads the team in hitting at .412 with a double and a pair of runs batted in; while
Jasmine Howard is hitting .313 with a pair of runs batted in.
On the mound,
Karisa Foye (0-1) leads the team in earned run average at 4.57, while
Toni Beth Garner (0-3) has thrown a pair of complete games for Tuskegee.
The Lady Golden Tigers and Flagler have met one time already this season in the D2 Gulf Coast Invitational, with the Lady Saints grabbing a 12-1 victory over Tuskegee in the fifth game of the tournament. Tuskegee has never faced their other two opponents, Eckerd or Sunday's opponent Newberry (8-2).
