TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The 2015 campaign is officially underway for the Tuskegee University tennis teams. The Golden and Lady Tigers hosted the reigning Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, Stillman University.
The season started bumpy for both teams as the women dropped their contest 7-2 and the men were defeated 5-4. In the singles competition, the Lady Tigers won one of six of the matches.
Reicia North defeated Carolina Barabas 6-2 and 6-3.
Kimberly Bowen,
Kayla Triche,
Navilla Paul,
Taylor Wilson and
Cheryl Dixon were all defeated in their respective matches.
In doubles, North and Bowen defeated Carolina Barabas and Angela Corredor 8-1, while Henderson/Triche and Dixon/Paul dropped their matches 8-0 and 8-5 respectively.
The men faired slightly better, dropping the contest in a 5-4 decision. In singles,
Oshane Trail was in the number one slot, defeating his opponent (Yonwaba Pupuma) 7-6 and 6-4.
Dominique Northecide landed in the number slot, loss his contest (Joan Sanson) 6-3 and 6-4. The third slot belonged to
Andrew Knight, who won his contest against Fernandez Esteban 1-6, 6-4 and 6-4.
Joseph Messam was defeated by F. Garcia-Heredia 6-3,1-6, and 6-1 in the fifth slot.
Brandon Sewell finished the singles for Tuskegee, defeating Edward Symmonett 8-4.
In doubles, won one of their three matches. Graham/Sewell defeated Esteban/Symmonett 9-7. Northecide/Messam yielded to Sanson/Heredia 9-7 and the Trail/Knight team fell to Pupuma/Pojasi 8-4.
