HOOVER, Ala. —Tuskegee softball continued its dominant run at the SIAC Crossover on Tuesday, picking up two more conference victories at Bill Noble Park. The Golden Tigers opened the day with a 3-0 win over Albany State before closing the afternoon with an 8-0 run-rule victory over Allen in six innings, improving to 5-0 at the crossover.
With the pair of wins, Tuskegee moves to 19-6 overall and remains unbeaten through the first two days of the conference event. The Golden Tigers will look to complete a perfect week when they face Clark Atlanta and Edward Waters on the third and final day of the crossover on Wednesday.
Tuskegee 3, Albany State 0
Tuskegee jumped out early and never looked back in the opening game of the day.
The Golden Tigers struck in the top of the first inning when
Kenya Tatum delivered an RBI single up the middle to score
Tamiya Martin, who had reached base and stolen second to get into scoring position. Moments later,
Ava Mearideth lined an RBI single to right field, bringing home Tatum and giving Tuskegee a 2-0 advantage.
Tuskegee added another run in the fourth inning when
Kaitlyn Fletcher blasted a solo home run to center field, extending the Golden Tigers' lead to 3-0.
That would be more than enough support for
Monica Rose, who turned in a dominant performance in the circle. Rose tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out nine batters and issuing only two walks over seven innings.
Offensively, Fletcher finished 1-for-2 with a home run and RBI, while Tatum and Merideth each recorded an RBI hit. Martin also played a key role at the top of the order, reaching base and scoring the game's first run.
Albany State managed just one hit in the contest, coming from Ansleigh Mason, while Tamia Pierce went the distance in the circle for the Golden Rams, allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Tuskegee 8, Allen 0 (6 innings)
Tuskegee carried its momentum into the second game of the day, exploding offensively to secure an 8-0 run-rule victory in six innings over Allen.
The Golden Tigers broke the game open in the second inning, plating four runs.
Shawna McNair drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the first run before
Payton Dunham followed with an RBI single.
Martha Hurt then delivered a clutch two-run single to left field, pushing the Tuskegee lead to 4-0.
Tuskegee added two more runs in the fifth inning when
Raina Ross scored on a wild pitch before
Naturelle Miles lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring
Rachel Ross.
The Golden Tigers capped the scoring in the sixth inning with another two-run rally. Ross drove in a run with an RBI single before Miles delivered again with an RBI single to left field to make it 8-0.
Ross led the Tuskegee offense with a 2-for-3 performance, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Miles finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Hurt added two RBIs, and Dunham recorded two hits and an RBI.
In the circle,
Brianna Lachermeier delivered a stellar outing for Tuskegee, throwing a six-inning shutout. She allowed just six hits while striking out five and walking one to earn the win.
Allen managed six hits in the game, with Ellissa Rich and Yazmyn Pryor each recording hits, but the Yellow Jackets were unable to push a run across.
