ORLANDO, Fla. — The Tuskegee women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance at the first SIAC Round Up of the season, going undefeated across three days of competition at Sanlando Tennis Park.
The Golden Tigers defeated Albany State (6-1) and Edward Waters (7-0) on Thursday, Savannah State (6-1) and Clark Atlanta (7-0) on Friday, and closed the weekend with 4-0 victories over Benedict and Spring Hill on Saturday. Tuskegee improves to 9-3 overall and remains perfect at 6-0 in SIAC play.
Thursday: Tuskegee 6, Albany State 1
Tuskegee opened the weekend by securing the doubles point and never relinquished momentum.
Leiloni Payton and
Ayawavi Vania Dotse controlled the No. 1 doubles court with a 6-0 victory, while
Gabrielle Blanks and
Adjowa-Sika Serena Pascaline followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Asia McRae and
Dayna Jackson earned a win by default at No. 3.
In singles, Tuskegee claimed five of six courts. Serena Pascaline dominated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, McRae cruised 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and Jackson delivered a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 4.
Taylor Ford added a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5, while
Chloe Griffin-Harrington secured a win by default at No. 6. Albany State's lone point came in a three-set battle at No. 1 singles.
Thursday: Tuskegee 7, Edward Waters 0
Tuskegee followed with a sweep over Edward Waters. The Golden Tigers once again captured the doubles point behind 6-4 and 6-1 wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 pairs, with McRae and Jackson adding a 6-1 decision at No. 3.
In singles, Tuskegee controlled every court. Dotse, Ayawavi battled through a tight 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 1. Payton rallied for a three-set victory at No. 2, and McRae secured a straight-set win at No. 4. Ford and Griffin-Harrington each closed out convincing straight-set victories to complete the shutout.
Friday: Tuskegee 6, Savannah State 1
The Golden Tigers continued their strong play Friday morning against Savannah State. Payton and Dotse, Ayawavi secured a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Blanks and Pascaline delivered a 6-1 result at No. 2. McRae and Jackson added a 6-0 shutout at No. 3.
In singles action, Tuskegee claimed five courts. Pascaline won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, Jackson earned a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 3, and Ford controlled her match 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4. Griffin-Harrington and Geary added straight-set victories at No. 5 and No. 6 to seal the team win.
Friday: Tuskegee 7, Clark Atlanta 0
Tuskegee closed Friday with another dominant sweep over Clark Atlanta. The Golden Tigers took the doubles point behind 6-3 and 6-1 victories on the top two courts and a 6-0 win at No. 3.
In singles, Dotse, Ayawavi earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1, while Payton secured a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2. McRae, Pascaline, Ford, and Griffin-Harrington each recorded straight-set victories to complete the shutout and maintain Tuskegee's unbeaten conference mark.
Saturday: Tuskegee 4, Benedict 0
On Saturday, Tuskegee continued its efficient play with a 4-0 win over Benedict. The Golden Tigers claimed the doubles point, highlighted by a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles and a default at No. 3.
In singles, Tuskegee secured the necessary four points to clinch the match. Geary earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4, while Griffin-Harrington won by default at No. 6. Blanks and Jackson controlled their matches before play was halted after the match was decided.
Saturday: Tuskegee 4, Spring Hill 0
Tuskegee concluded the weekend with a 4-0 victory over Spring Hill. Payton and Dotse, Ayawavi secured a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while McRae and Jackson added a 6-0 decision at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
In singles, Payton recorded a straight-set win at No. 2, Pascaline earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4, and Griffin-Harrington closed out a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 to seal the team victory.
Tuskegee's dominance throughout the weekend was anchored by strong doubles play and depth across the singles lineup. The unit dropped just two total team points across six matches while recording four shutouts.
