INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Tuskegee women's tennis program is officially NCAA Tournament bound for the second consecutive season.
The Golden Tigers learned Monday night during the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship Selection Show that they will face Nova Southeastern, the No. 2 seed and regional host, in the first round of the South Region #2 bracket.
Tuskegee earned the No. 7 seed in the South Region after capturing their second straight Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) title earlier this spring.
The Golden Tigers will now head to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they will take on a Nova Southeastern team that finished 16-3 on the season and will enter as the favorite to advance from the regional pod.
The match is scheduled for May 12 at Nova Southeastern's campus.
The matchup is a tall challenge for Tuskegee, who compiled a strong 14-4 overall record while dominating SIAC play en route to back-to-back championships.
The Golden Tigers, however, are no strangers to postseason play after last year's trip to the NCAA South Regional, and they will look to lean on that experience in their second consecutive NCAA appearance.
The winner of the Tuskegee-Nova Southeastern matchup will face the victor of West Alabama and Lee University for the right to advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship finals, set for May 21-25 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, hosted by Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.
The Golden Tigers have been led all year by a balanced roster and a deep lineup that came through in big moments during SIAC play and postseason competition.
Their depth and composure will once again be tested on the national stage against the Sharks.
