Preview: Golden Tigers Head to Savannah for Key SIAC Series against Savannah State

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee baseball is set for a pivotal Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) weekend series on the road, as the Golden Tigers travel to Georgia to face Savannah State in a three-game slate at Tiger Field.
 
The action opens with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. ET, followed by a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
 
Tuskegee enters the weekend with a 12-21 overall record and an 8-13 mark in conference play. The Golden Tigers will look to build on momentum from recent non-conference and league games, including strong offensive performances and aggressive base running.
 
On the other side, Savannah State sits near the top of the SIAC standings at 18-9 overall and 15-6 in conference play, backed by one of the strongest pitching staffs in the league.
 
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (12-21, 8-13 SIAC)
Tuskegee continues to showcase a high-powered offense, batting .285 as a team with 280 total hits, 22 home runs, and 152 stolen bases in 182 attempts, ranking among the nation's leaders in swipes.
 
Ryan Morrow leads the team in batting average, hitting .368 with 39 hits, 32 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases.
 
Jabari Johnson (.373 AVG) and John Saffold (.337 AVG, 28 hits, 12 RBIs, 20-22 SB) have also been key contributors, while James Slaughter adds speed and consistency with a .316 average and 28 stolen bases.
 
The pitching staff is still searching for consistency, entering the weekend with a 7.90 ERA.
 
Mikelle Mason (5-4) leads the team in wins and innings pitched, having thrown 42 innings with 30 strikeouts.
 
Richard Powell (2-4) has been one of the workhorses with 47.1 innings pitched, while Amare Morgan has made nine starts for the Golden Tigers.
 
As a staff, Tuskegee has recorded 131 strikeouts and allowed 24 home runs through 33 games.

Savannah State counters with a well-rounded and balanced club that is batting .296 as a team with 250 hits and 84 stolen bases in 97 attempts.
 
Senior Kendal Spencer leads the Tigers with a stellar .435 average, 40 hits, 39 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases.
 
Reginald Tuggle (.354 AVG, 27 RBIs) and Johan Sandoval (.330 AVG, 23 RBIs) provide additional power and plate discipline in the heart of the order.
 
On the mound, Savannah State features one of the best pitching staffs in the conference with a 5.44 team ERA and a .236 opponent batting average.
 
Brevin Smith leads the rotation with a 4-0 record and 1.82 ERA across 34.2 innings, recording 28 strikeouts.
 
Brayden Thomas (3-2, 3.71 ERA) and Adonis Perez (2-1, 3.91 ERA) have also provided quality starts, while Austin McCormack (1.50 ERA in 12 innings) and Evan Kehren (3.37 ERA) have contributed out of the bullpen.
 
Defensively, Savannah State holds a team fielding percentage of .953, with four everyday players boasting perfect 1.000 fielding percentages.
 
The team has turned 16 double plays and allowed just 14 stolen bases in 154 attempts, highlighting a disciplined and fundamentally sound defensive unit.
 
This weekend series carries significant weight as both teams continue to jockey for SIAC postseason positioning.
