GARDENDALE, Ala. — The Tuskegee softball team continued its stellar conference campaign with a commanding sweep over SIAC rival Miles on Friday afternoon at Bill Noble Park.
The Golden Tigers shut out the Golden Bears 6–0 in game one and followed with a 7–1 victory in the nightcap to move to 25–6 overall and 19–2 in SIAC play.
With the losses, Miles drops to 9–25 on the season and 9–8 in the conference.
Tuskegee 6, Miles 0
In the first game, Tuskegee asserted control early and never looked back. The Golden Tigers scored in the first three innings, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and timely hits.
After
Alarryn Beckley reached on a single and stole third in the first inning,
Kaeley Roldan brought her home with a groundout to short to give Tuskegee a 1–0 lead. Beckley finished the game 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored.
In the second inning,
Carole Ross singled and later scored on an infield RBI single from
Shanna McNair.
Ross would reach base three times in the game, drawing two walks, and scoring twice.
Victoria Harrison added an RBI double in the third, scoring
Caroline Clark, who reached on a single and stole second.
Jessica Morales walked twice and singled in the seventh, finishing with an RBI and a stolen base.
The Tigers added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the final frame, Morales and Ross came around to score after RBI hits from
Tamiya Martin and Morales, closing out the game with an exclamation point.
In the circle,
Monica Rose was exceptional, firing a complete-game one-hitter. She struck out eight, walked two, and faced just 24 batters across seven innings, needing only 75 pitches (56 strikes) to shut down Miles' lineup. The only hit she allowed was a sixth-inning infield single.
Rose was backed by error-free defense and a confident, aggressive offense that swiped five bases and consistently applied pressure to Miles' pitching and defense.
Tuskegee 7, Miles 1
Game two saw more of the same from Tuskegee, with a different hero stepping up.
Martin stole the spotlight with a dominant offensive showing, driving in four runs on three hits.
After a 1–0 lead was established in the third inning following a steal of home, Tuskegee broke the game open in the fourth with a four-run rally. An error plated the first run before Martin laced a bases-clearing single to make it 5–0.
Miles scored their only run of the day in the fourth, but the Golden Tigers answered back in the sixth when Martin drove in her fourth RBI of the game with a single, extending the lead to 6–1.
Ross added another RBI with a base hit in the seventh to cap the scoring at 7–1.
Kamya Hampton earned the win in the game, tossing a complete game while allowing seven hits and just one run. She walked two and struck out two in another strong outing from Tuskegee's pitching staff.
The defense again played cleanly, committing no errors and turning a key double play.
Alexis Thompson led the team with 11 putouts at first base.
The Tigers also flexed their speed, stealing eight bases in the contest, led by multiple steals from Martin, McNair, and
Nylah Strange-Lindley.
Tuskegee outscored Miles 13–1 across the doubleheader, out-hit them 14–8, and committed zero errors to Miles' five.
With the sweep, the Golden Tigers continue to strengthen their hold atop the SIAC standings heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
