Preview: Golden Tigers Travel to Face Paine College for Non-Conference Doubleheader

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee baseball team will hit the road for a midweek non-conference doubleheader against Paine on Tuesday at Lions Field in Augusta, Georgia.
 
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST.
 
Tuskegee enters the matchup with a record of 11-20 overall following a competitive three-game series against Edward Waters this past weekend.
 
The Golden Tigers are looking to bounce back and build momentum heading into the heart of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) schedule.
 
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (11-20, 8-13 SIAC)
Through 31 games, Tuskegee is hitting .281 as a team with 259 hits, 37 doubles, 22 triples, and 21 home runs. The Golden Tigers have scored 194 runs and driven in 173 RBIs.
 
The team is aggressive on the bases, with 131 stolen bases on 160 attempts and has drawn 139 walks while slugging .437 collectively.
 
The offensive charge is led by standout Ryan Morrow, who enters the week hitting .374 with 37 hits, 29 RBIs, and a .463 on-base percentage.
 
James Slaughter (.352 AVG, 25 hits, 25 stolen bases), Jabari Johnson (.341 AVG, 15 hits, 7 RBIs), and John Saffold (.325 AVG, 26 hits, 19 stolen bases), also continue to deliver in key moments.
 
On the mound, Tuskegee carries a team ERA of 8.14 over 234.1 innings pitched. The staff has allowed 254 hits, 250 runs (212 earned), and 231 walks while striking out 123 batters.
 
Mikelle Mason leads the team in wins with a 5-4 record across 42.0 innings and 30 strikeouts.
 
Richard Powell (2-4, 46.1 IP) and Amare Morgan (1-2, 37.0 IP) also continue to shoulder a heavy workload for the Golden Tigers.
 
The defense has turned 25 double plays and holds a .952 fielding percentage.
 
ABOUT PAINE (12-4)
Meanwhile, Paine College enters Tuesday's doubleheader with an impressive 12-4 overall record. The Lions have won consistently at home, sporting a 7-3 record at Lions Field.
 
Offensively, Paine is one of the most dangerous teams in the region, batting .336 as a team with 145 hits, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, and 120 RBIs over just 16 games. They have a .508 slugging percentage and a .484 team on-base percentage.
 
Paine's offense is paced by Jhoel Melone, who is hitting a blistering .480 with 24 hits, 7 home runs, and 28 RBIs in just 16 games.
 
Cristian Batista (.419, 18 hits), Jeury Beato (.367, 18 hits, 16 RBIs), and Vladmir Lemos (.354, 17 hits, 9 stolen bases) add depth and consistency to the Lions' lineup.
 
As a team, Paine has stolen 29 bases and committed just 24 errors, giving them a .943 fielding percentage.
 
On the mound, Paine holds a team ERA of 6.48 over 109.2 innings pitched. The pitching staff has allowed 122 hits, 93 runs (79 earned), and 74 walks while striking out 68 batters.
 
Denny Daza leads the rotation with a 4-1 record and a 2.45 ERA across 29.1 innings.
 
Christian Tibadijo (2-1, 30.2 IP) and Omar Yepez (3-2, 25.0 IP) round out a capable staff that complements a powerful offense.
