Women's Tennis Rolls Past Clark Atlanta in Conference Road Win

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Tuskegee University women's tennis team continued its dominant stretch in SIAC play on Saturday afternoon, earning a commanding 7-0 road victory over Clark Atlanta at the Lady Panther Tennis Courts.
 
With the win, the Golden Tigers improve to 9-4 overall and remain unbeaten in conference action at 8-0, while Clark Atlanta drops to 1-12 on the season and 1-7 in SIAC play.
 
Tuskegee quickly took control of the match during doubles play, sweeping all three pairings with authority.
 
The top duo of Tanyaradzwa Kaome and Leiloni Payton rolled to a 6-1 win over Alexandra Turnbough and Keynon Thompkins, while Gabrielle Blanks and Dayna Jackson matched the result at the No. 2 spot, downing Jumai Muhammed and Joiya Middlebrooks by the same score.
 
The No. 3 team of Gabrielle Geary and Taylor Ford completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over M. Allen and Janae Troupe, clinching the doubles point for Tuskegee.
 
The Golden Tigers kept their momentum rolling into singles play, where they won all six matches in straight sets.
 
At the top of the lineup, Gabrielle Blanks fought through a competitive match to defeat Jumai Muhammed 6-4, 6-4.
 
Kaome was dominant in her match at the No. 2 position, defeating Keynon Thompkins 6-1, 6-0.
 
Leiloni Payton followed suit with a solid 6-3, 6-2 victory over Janae Troupe at No. 3 singles.
 
Dayna Jackson was in control throughout her match on court four, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Joiya Middlebrooks.
 
Taylor Ford put together one of the most decisive wins of the afternoon, blanking Alexandra Turnbough 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Chloe Griffin-Harrington rounded out the clean sweep for Tuskegee with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 over M. Allen.
 
The 7-0 win marks the third consecutive shutout for Tuskegee and reinforces their place as one of the top programs in the SIAC.
 
The Golden Tigers have now won seven of their last eight matches and will look to continue their strong play down the stretch as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season and postseason competition.

Up Next
Tuskegee will return to play this week as they compete in the second SIAC Round-Up, this time held in Mobile, Alabama. The conference action will take place from Wednesday, April 2 to Friday, April 4.
