Tuskegee Completes Doubleheader Sweep Over Point University to Extend Winning Streak

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee softball team continued its dominant stretch, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Point University at the TU Softball Field on Tuesday.
 
The Golden Tigers edged out a close 3-2 victory in the first game before exploding offensively in an 11-0 shutout in the second contest.
 
With the wins, Tuskegee improved to 15-3 overall and remained perfect in conference play at 10-0.
 
The Golden Tigers have now won 12 straight games, including a flawless 5-0 mark at home. Point dropped to 3-19 on the season.
 
Game One: Tuskegee 3, Point 2
Tuskegee battled through a tightly contested opener, using timely hitting and strong pitching to secure a 3-2 victory.
 
The Golden Tigers struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Jessica Morales led off with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout.
 
Monica Rose drove her in with a single to give Tuskegee an early 1-0 lead.
 
Point responded in the top of the second, taking advantage of a pair of walks and an RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Skyhawks then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single.
 
Tuskegee answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. Caroline Clark delivered a clutch RBI double to bring in Alexis Thompson, tying the game at 2-2.
 
The Golden Tigers took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Victoria Harrison executed a sacrifice fly to plate Alarryn Beckley, giving Tuskegee a 3-2 advantage.
 
Rose was stellar in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs on four hits.
 
She struck out five and issued only one walk, improving her record to 7-1 on the season.
 
Tuskegee 11, Point 0 (5 Innings)
The second game was all Tuskegee, as the Golden Tigers delivered a dominant performance, overwhelming Point with an offensive outburst and a shutdown pitching effort.
 
Tuskegee wasted no time putting runs on the board, scoring six times in the first inning.
 
The rally was highlighted by an RBI double from Beckley, a two-run single from Rose, and an RBI triple from Clark.
 
The Golden Tigers continued to pile on the runs, adding one in the second and four more in the third to make it an 11-0 game.
 
Kamya Hampton took care of the rest, delivering a five-inning complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out four, recording her seventh win of the season.
 
Offensively, Shanna McNair led the charge, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
 
Beckley finished with three RBIs, while Rose and Clark each drove in two runs. Morales continued to be a threat on the basepaths, swiping two stolen bases in the win.

Hampton was dominant in Game 2, pitching five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four to secure the win.

Rose had a strong offensive performance, going a combined 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Meanwhile, Clark contributed a triple and drove in three runs across both games, followed by Beckley, who delivered key hits, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double.

The Golden Tigers will now turn their attention back to SIAC play as they look to keep their undefeated conference record intact. They will host Spring Hill for a three-game series this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at the TU Softball Field.
