TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee baseball returns home to Washington Field this weekend, set to take on Kentucky State in a SIAC series.
The Golden Tigers will play a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12 noon before wrapping up the three-game series with a single contest on Sunday, also set for a noon first pitch.
Tuskegee enters the weekend with a 6-15 overall record and a 3-9 mark in conference play.
The Golden Tigers are looking to bounce back following a midweek non-conference loss to Mobile and will aim to use their home-field advantage to gain ground in the SIAC standings.
Meanwhile, Kentucky State has struggled to find its rhythm this season, coming into the series with a 2-17 overall record and still searching for its first SIAC win at 0-12 in league play.
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (6-15, 3-9 SIAC)
The Golden Tigers have displayed some strong offensive performances this season, hitting .253 as a team while recording 16 home runs, 84 stolen bases, and an on-base percentage of .361.
Leading the charge at the plate has been Ryan Morrow, who is batting .348 on the season with a team-high 23 hits, 14 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases.
John Saffold, who has emerged as a key contributor, is hitting .357 while showcasing his speed with 12 stolen bases and an impressive on-base percentage of .526.
Power production has come from Scott Williams, who has launched four home runs and driven in 12 runs while slugging .512.
Devon Lee has also been a force in the middle of the order, tallying 18 RBIs to lead the team, along with three home runs. Jacobi Brooks has been another key bat, hitting .342 with 11 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
Speed continues to be a weapon for the Golden Tigers, as they have consistently pressured opponents on the base paths.
Tuskegee has successfully stolen 84 bases in 104 attempts this season, with Morrow, Saffold, and James Slaughter (12 steals)Â leading the way.
On the mound, Tuskegee pitchers have combined for a team ERA of 8.05, striking out 87 batters over 155.1 innings pitched.
Mikelle Mason has been one of the top arms for the Golden Tigers, posting a 3-3 record across seven starts with a 8.69 ERA in 29 innings pitched.
Isaiah Jones has been a reliable bullpen arm, leading the team with 31.1 innings pitched and 22 strikeouts, maintaining a 4.88 ERA. Amare Morgan has also logged important innings in the starting rotation, throwing 25.1 innings with a 4.97 ERA.
Tuskegee's defense has been mostly solid, posting a .962 fielding percentage, turning 18 double plays on the season while limiting opposing teams to 40 stolen bases in 58 attempts.
ABOUT KENTUCKY STATE (2-17, 0-12 SIAC)
The Thorobreds have endured a challenging start to their season, entering the series at 2-17 overall and 0-12 in SIAC play.
Offensively, Kentucky State is hitting just .200 as a team, with only three home runs on the season.
Parker White leads the squad with a .283 batting average, 15 hits, and a .493 on-base percentage, while Brad Dossett has provided consistency with a .280 average and six RBIs.
On the mound, the Thorobreds have struggled with a team ERA of 13.20, allowing 237 runs across 19 games.
Brady Wooldridge has been one of their most dependable arms, leading the team in innings pitched (26.1) while posting an 8.89 ERA. Dossett has also logged important innings, recording a 7.71 ERA over 21 innings with 18 strikeouts.
Defensively, Kentucky State has posted a .897 fielding percentage, committing 62 errors across 19 games. Opponents have been aggressive on the base paths against the Thorobreds, stealing 67 bases in 81 attempts.
