TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee track and field teams are preparing for a highly competitive weekend in Birmingham, Alabama, where they will participate in back-to-back meets hosted by UAB at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Golden Tigers will compete in the Vulcan Invitational on Friday, February 7, followed by the Green & Gold Invite on Saturday, February 8.
This weekend marks the third and fourth indoor meets of the season, following their recent performance at the South Alabama Indoor Invitational.
The Golden Tigers showed promise at the South Alabama Indoor Invitational, with standout performances across sprints, middle-distance races, relays, and field events.
The men's team delivered strong results in the 4x400 meter relay, where
Justice Northern, Jarmarqus Jones,
Shawn Jarrett II, and
Jackson Murry finished with a time of 3:25.01.
In individual events, Northern clocked 22.56 in the 200 meters and 50.95 in the 400 meters, placing 22nd and 19th, respectively.
Laquenton Underwood showcased his speed in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07, while
Jayden Davidson and
Dennis Kibet contributed solid performances in the 800 meters and mile, respectively.
Ethan Zagore Jr. and
Michael Oloye impressed in field events, with notable marks in the long jump and triple jump.
The women's team was led by senior
Anitria Sangster, who excelled in the 400 meters with a time of 57.85 and placed 14th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries.
Sangster was also instrumental in the women's 4x400 meter relay team, which included
An'Janae Latchinson,
Akierah Walker, and
Amira Broussard, finishing seventh with a time of 4:01.62.
Walker and
Genesis Harrell stood out in the mile, with times of 5:51.42 and 5:59.00, while Latchinson displayed her versatility in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing seventh with a time of 8.81.
The Vulcan Invitational begins on Friday, followed by the Green & Gold Invite on Saturday. Both meets will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex, a premier venue for indoor track and field competition.
With a mix of experienced athletes and emerging talent, the Golden Tigers are poised for a successful weekend in Birmingham.
