Tuskegee Sweeps Oakwood in Non-Conference Home Victory

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee women's volleyball team returned to form on Tuesday night, sweeping Oakwood University 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-9) in a dominant non-conference performance inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.

The win improved the Golden Tigers to 11-9 overall, while the Ambassadors fell to 9-8 on the season.

Tuskegee came out strong in the opening set, hitting .367 as a team behind the steady play of Najwa Williams and Gabirlla Jones, who combined for 14 kills in the set. After a 7-7 tie, Tuskegee surged ahead with a 7-2 run on the way to closing the set 25-17 on an Oakwood attack error.

The Golden Tigers continued to control the tempo in the second frame, using seven service aces and a balanced attack to pull away midway through.

Gabriella Jones again paced the offense, combining with Jordyn Jones for four kills in the set, while Jasmine Brantley added four digs and three service aces.

Oakwood finished the set with nine total errors, while Tuskegee hit .286 for the set. A late run featuring back-to-back aces from Brantley pushed Tuskegee to a 25-18 victory and a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was all Golden Tigers, as they raced out to an 11-4 advantage and never looked back. Tuskegee's attack fired on all cylinders, hitting .300 for the frame and recording 13 kills.

Williams led the charge with four kills, while Kayla Coleman and Sian Sprinkle combined for five. Defensively, Lauren Canady led with six digs, while setters Mikea Allen and Sahnee Dillahunt-Nedd combined for ten assists.

For the match, Tuskegee hit .242 with 32 kills, ten team blocks, and 11 service aces, and held Oakwood to just a .018 hitting percentage.

Tuskegee returns to SIAC action this weekend as the team returns to Memphis, Tennessee for another SIAC Cluster. The Golden Tigers are set to face Lane, Central State, Kentucky State, and LeMoyne-Owen.
