TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee baseball will lead off its 2025 campaign on Saturday afternoon when the Golden Tigers host Stillman in a weekend non-conference series.
The team will open the year with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. CT at Washington Field. The final game of the series will be played on Sunday, set for a 2 p.m. start.
Last season, the Golden Tigers showed flashes of strong play but struggled with consistency.
On the offensive side, Tuskegee averaged a .260 team batting average, with returner
Ryan Morrow, who finished the season with 37 hits, leading the way. Williams was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise tough year, contributing with 29 runs scored, 25 RBIs, a .282 batting average, and a .370 slugging percentage.
Tuskegee will need similar contributions from other returning players, including
Ryan Morrow,
Nicholas Pratt,
Devon Lee and
Alex Glass, who all played in over 30 games and batted about .240 last season.
Morrow led the team with a .330 average, along with earning 30 hits, including five doubles, 11 runs batted in and scoring 18 runs. Meanwhile, Pratt finished the year with 34 hits, 17 RBIs, and 20 runs scored, followed by
Devon Lee (26 hits, 13 RBI) and
Alex Glass (25 hits, 14 RBI).
Additionally, newcomers and young players will be expected to step up and make an impact early in the season.
The pitching staff, which posted a team ERA of 8.89 in 2024, will be another focus area for Tuskegee in 2025.
The team is expected to look to returning pitchers like
Rodney Mudd II, who had a solid start last year, and
Devon Lee, both of whom will be relied upon to anchor the rotation, along with a number of newcomers contributing to both starter and relief roles. A strong showing from the pitchers will be key to the Golden Tigers' success in the 2025 season.
Stillman, who finished the 2024 season with a 15-31 record and a 6-24 mark in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), will also be coming into this series looking for improvement.
The Tigers struggled offensively last season, finishing with a team batting average of .272. Stillman's top returner, Kobe Lewis, finished second on the team with a .316 batting average and contributed with 36 hits and 19 RBIs.
As a team, Stillman needs to improve upon their offensive consistency to compete more effectively in their conference, and the 2025 season offers an opportunity to do so.
On the mound, Stillman's pitchers had a team ERA of 8.92 last season. With several new arms coming into the fold for 2025, the Tigers will be looking for their pitchers to develop more consistency and depth, which could be a key factor in their hopes of improving their record this year.
For both teams, the first series of the season represents an important opportunity to gain momentum. Tuskegee will need to capitalize on their home-field advantage and establish early dominance in their lineup, as well as make significant improvements in pitching. A successful start will give the Golden Tigers the confidence to carry them into their conference play later in the season.
This three-game set between Tuskegee and Stillman will be a crucial test for both teams as they seek to set the tone for their 2025 seasons. With both teams eager to start strong, fans should expect an exciting and competitive opening series. Games will take place at Washington Field, and the Golden Tigers are hopeful to put together a strong showing as they begin their pursuit of a successful season.
