Holmes, Manuel Combine for 31 to Help Golden Tigers to Road Win at Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. __ Jasmine Manuel led Tuskegee with 17 points, followed by SyAnn Holmes with 14 helped the Golden Tigers continue their impressive recent run, claiming a 63-48 victory against Lane on Monday evening in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road battle inside Oman Arena.

The win marks the Golden Tigers' sixth consecutive victory, improving their record to 11-8 overall and 8-4 in the SIAC, as they move closer to securing a top two spot in the division.

Tuskegee dominated on both ends of the court, controlling the tempo and showcasing strong defensive play. The team shot 44.2 percent from the field (23-52), while Lane struggled to find their rhythm, shooting just 25 percent (16-64).

Despite a tough first half where they only managed 11 points in the first quarter, Tuskegee's offense surged in the second period, where they put up 24 points and limited Lane to just 14.

Lane mounted a comeback with a 17-6 run in the third quarter, however the Golden Tigers then sealed their victory in the second half, with a 22-point performance in the final quarter, capitalizing on fast breaks and second-chance points.

Individually, Manuel led the charge for Tuskegee, also adding six rebounds, and contributing to the defensive effort with two blocks along with her scoring.

Holmes followed with a well-rounded performance, shooting 6-for-8 from the field along with grabbing six rebounds, and adding three steals to her 14 points. Meanwhile, Trinity Layton scored a season-high 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting and making all three free throw attempts.

On defense, the Golden Tigers were exceptional, forcing 20 turnovers and converting them into 20 fast break points. Their ability to control the paint also stood out, outscoring Lane 32-20 in the paint.

Lane struggled offensively throughout, with Europe Brown leading the way for the home team, scoring 13 points. Dyani Berstine and Cailynn Knox were the next leading scorers with seven points each.

In the first half, Lane briefly held the lead in the early minutes, but Tuskegee quickly regained control.

The Golden Tigers' defense proved pivotal in maintaining that advantage, especially with key rebounds and turnovers that kept Lane from finding any offensive flow.

By halftime, Tuskegee held a comfortable lead, which they further extended in the second half as they capitalized on Lane's shooting struggles.

Tuskegee's victory over Lane continues their momentum as they look to finish the season strong.
