BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ A game-high 18 points from veteran guard
Brittney Bolin helped Tuskegee women's basketball extend its win streak to five games with a commanding 61-42 victory over Miles in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) battle at Bartow Arena.
This victory pushes the Golden Tigers to 10-8 overall and 7-4 in the SIAC, solidifying their position as one of the top teams in the conference.
Tuskegee set the tone early in the game, finishing the first quarter with a 13-11 lead behind scoring from five players.
They found their rhythm in the second period, outscoring Miles 20-4 to take a commanding 33-15 lead at the half, with Bolin scoring nine points in the quarter.
The Golden Tigers' defense continued to force intense pressure, disrupting Miles' offense, forcing 13 turnovers in the first half.
In the third quarter, Miles flipped the momentum, outscoring Tuskegee 13-8 in the frame, however the Golden Tigers maintained their lead with key contributions from several players.
Despite Miles' effort to fight back, Tuskegee remained in control and extended their lead even further in the fourth quarter with a 20-point performance.
Tuskegee's offensive attack was led by Bolin, who shot an efficient 7-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, also contributing two assists. Bolin's scoring came at key moments, helping her team push their advantage in critical stretches of the game.
Hilani Cantone also finished in double figures, posting 12 points and eight rebounds, while
Alexandria Johnson added nine points and three assists, followed by
Shemaiah Mackin with seven points and six rebounds.
Defensively, Tuskegee was able to limit Miles' shooting to just 27.3% from the field, while forcing 15 turnovers, leading to 15 points.
Tuskegee also outperformed Miles in the paint, scoring 32 points compared to Miles' 22, and dominated in points off the bench, outscoring the opposition 41-20.
With the win, Tuskegee continues to build momentum as they look to secure a top spot in the SIAC standings. Their solid defensive performances, balanced offensive attack, and depth make them a formidable team as they continue their quest for a strong finish in the season.
