Golden Tigers Take 69-49 Win over Central State Following Dominant First Quarter

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee women's basketball team took a dominant 69-49 victory over Central State in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchup at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.

The win marks the Golden Tigers' third consecutive victory, improving their overall record to 8-8 and 5-4 in the SIAC.

From the tip-off, Tuskegee came out strong, securing an early 21-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, with a remarkable offensive performance that put them in control of the game.

Hilani Cantone played a crucial role in the team's first-quarter dominance, finishing the game with 16 points, four rebounds, and an assist.

The Golden Tigers also benefited from strong bench contributions, with Jasmine Manuel adding 12 points, six rebounds, and an assist in just 20 minutes of play, still working her way back from injury.

Defensively, Tuskegee was equally impressive, holding Central State to just four points in the first quarter, with the Lady Marauders struggling to find rhythm in their shooting.

The Golden Tigers capitalized on Central State's turnovers, forcing five first quarter turnovers and converting them into six points.

Tuskegee's defense, including several key steals from players like Brittney Bolin, was instrumental in their ability to maintain control throughout the game.

The second quarter saw Tuskegee extend their lead to 36-15 at halftime, with a balanced offensive attack led by Alexandria Johnson, who contributed six points and two rebounds in the period.

The Golden Tigers' defense remained steadfast, holding Central State to just 11 points in the second quarter.

By the third quarter, Tuskegee's advantage had grown to 53-35, with the team continuing to dominate both ends of the floor. Central State's offensive struggles were compounded by Tuskegee's ability to rebound effectively, winning the rebounding battle 36-25 overall.

Despite a late rally by Central State in the fourth quarter, Tuskegee was able to close out the game with a 69-49 victory.

The Golden Tigers' efficient shooting and defense ensured they remained in control throughout, with a final score margin that reflected their overall dominance.

In addition to Cantone and Manuel hitting double figures, Tuskegee received significant contributions from Bolin (four points, five rebounds, three assists), and La'Dajah Huguley (six points, four rebounds, two assists).

Central State's Dashanti Miller led the way for the Lady Marauders, scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome Tuskegee's balanced attack.
