TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee women's basketball team secured a thrilling 51-47 overtime victory over Albany State in their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road contest on Monday evening.
The Golden Tigers improved to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in the SIAC with the win.
The game went into overtime after both teams struggled to break the tie in the highly contested fourth quarter.
With Albany State holding a 41-36 lead in the 90 seconds, key free throws by Alexandria Johnson and Brittney Bolin make the score a one possession game. With 22 seconds remaining in regulation, Johnson hit a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 43-43, forcing the extra time.
Following over three minutes of the teams trading leads, Tuskegee gained their final lead in the overtime period on a Bolin three-pointer, giving the Golden Tigers a 50-47 advantage with 44 seconds remaining.
The Golden Rams had several chances to tie the game but missed critical shots in the final moments, while Tuskegee's defense held strong, securing the win.
In the fourth quarter, Tuskegee faced a challenge as Albany State outscored them 13-3 in the third to take a 35-32 lead heading into the final period.
The Golden Tigers struggled offensively, shooting just 7.7 percent in the third, including 0-5 from beyond the arc. Despite this, solid defense kept them within reach of Albany State, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
Tuskegee had a solid start in the opening half, taking a 10-8 lead after the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, the Golden Tigers' offense gained momentum, shooting over 47 percent from the field and putting together a 19-point effort that gave them a 29-22 lead at the break.
Tuskegee shot 39.3 precent overall from the field in the half, setting the foundation for a strong second-half push.
The win was highlighted by strong individual performances, particularly from Brittney Bolin, who finished with 15 points, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, and eight rebounds.
La'Dajah Huguley contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Syann Holmes added six points and six rebounds.
Tuskegee's defense was key to the win, forcing 27 turnovers and playing a crucial role in slowing down Albany State's offense in overtime.
For Albany State, Keyra Peterson led the charge with 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Jasirae Vick contributed 16 points.
However, Albany State struggled to maintain offensive consistency in the overtime period, shooting just 1-for-6 in the extra frame.
