TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee women's basketball earned a decisive 60-37 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center on Saturday afternoon.
The win boosted Tuskegee's overall record to 6-8, with a 3-4 mark in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
The Golden Tigers came out strong in the first half, dominating both offensively and defensively. Tuskegee quickly established a lead, closing out the first quarter with a 15-8 advantage.
TU's momentum slowed coming into the second period, with LeMoyne-Owen pushing back and cutting into the margin. By the quarter's end, the Magicians held a narrow halftime lead of 29-28 going into the break.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers ramped up their defensive intensity, making it difficult for LeMoyne-Owen to score. Tuskegee's defense resulted in several fast-break opportunities, and their aggressive play translated into a dominant 16-point advantage by the end of the third quarter.
The final period was marked by strong rebounding and a steady offensive flow, allowing Tuskegee to close out the game with a 60-37 win.
Key individual performances helped solidify the victory for the Golden Tigers, starting with guard Alexandria Johnson who scored a game-high 15 points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hilani Cantone added 14 points and five boards in her 25 minutes, followed by a double-double from Syann Holmes with 11 points and 10 rebounds, displaying her all-around skill on both ends of the floor.
Shemaiah Mackin contributed with seven points and 10 rebounds, while Brittney Bolin added nine points, five rebounds, and two assists in the win.
LeMoyne-Owen struggled offensively, shooting just 25 percent from the field and only managing 37 total points in the game.
Despite the team's best efforts, they couldn't find a consistent offensive rhythm. Keria McGhee led the way with 12 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Tuskegee's performance.
Tuskegee's defense stood out, as they recorded 12 steals and two blocks, while also converting 19 points off turnovers and 16 fast break points. The Golden Tigers were aggressive throughout the game, finishing with a significant rebound advantage and capitalizing on LeMoyne-Owen's mistakes.
With the win, Tuskegee moved into a more competitive position in the SIAC standings and will look to continue their momentum in upcoming conference play.
